Looking a getting a pair of the vortex razor hd 10x42 for hunting. Anyone have a pair that can recomend them? Or even the 8x42.

Re: Vortex razor hd binos

Can't comment on the Razors, but a buddy got a year end close out deal on a set of the Viper HD's last year and they are truely amazing for what he spent. I have to believe that you'd be very happy with a set of Razors.

Re: Vortex razor hd binos

I have a set of the Viper 10x42's that are outstanding! They were very reasonable, and the glass is as good as binos that cost twice the price.

Re: Vortex razor hd binos

I picked up a set of Viper (not Razor) 10x42 HD's whilst vacationing in AK (my Bushnells shat the bed in Denali). Couldn't be happier, and it doesn't hurt that the Vortex warranty covers all manner of accidental damage.

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">We will repair or replace your Vortex product in the event it becomes damaged or defective—at no charge to you. It doesn't matter how it happened, whose fault it was, or where you purchased it.</div></div>

I was able to compare these to the top-end Leupolds, and with some of the $3k Swarovskis. There was a difference in the top end gear, but it's up to discussion as to whether these were worth the price. Bottom line: the next price break from the $600 Vortex is nearly $1,200, and I'd rather spend this on ammo.

Re: Vortex razor hd binos

I was comparing a pair of the new Vortex Razor HD binos in 10x42 to a pair of Swaro EL's the other day.

My thoughts:

The Razors are EXCELLENT
FOV on Swaro was slightly better
I'm not sure I could have passed a "blind" test of which bino was which.
The Razor is 98% the optical performer the Swaro is

Re: Vortex razor hd binos

Thanks for the input guys. A buddy said the Cabelas in Owatona has both ELs and razor in stock so I am going to head there to do a Side by side compairison. From what I have heard the vortex are worth the money and there isn't enough difference to justify the cost of the ELs.

Ergonomics are not much of a factor for me with binos. Perhaps it's the way I hold them, but it really doesn't make much difference.

However, the new Razor HD is smaller and lighter than the old version, which is a welcome surprise.

Re: Vortex razor hd binos

My question is:

Are the Razor HD binos twice the quality and clarity than the Viper HD's. I'm looking for something, but I'm curious as to the differences between the 2 considering the Razors are twice the price.

So then would you expect the Swarovski EL Swarovision's ($2499) to be more than twice as good as the Razor HD ($1200)?

Your talking about 2 completely different brands.

Re: Vortex razor hd binos

Outdoorsmans, don't you expect quality differences to reflect directly with price? I know I do. I bought non-american brand car last time because it's quality per dollar was better.

I agree with you, but there's also a point of deminishing returns. You should expect to see a fairly sizeable difference between a $200 bino compared to a $600 bino, but you won't see as big of a difference taking that $600 pair and putting them up against a $1200 pair.

Re: Vortex razor hd binos

I have a pair of 10x42 vipers and a pair of 12x50 diamondbacks and both pairs are outstanding even when compared to swarvorski SLC's. For around $300 Vortex Diamondbacks have NO Competition!!! and the Vipers are outstanding. I wouldn't buy any optics besides Vortex the value is unmatched. And they look and feel very expensive!!!!

there is always a point of deminishing returns.

for instance a chevy cavalier is 20000ish new, a chevy corvette is 80 thousand new, a ferrari is 300.000 (guess)

obviously the vet will absolutly blow the caviliers doors off in a race, and the ferrari will beat the vette, but the ferrari wont blow the vettes doors off like the vette did to the cavilier even though there is the most price diffrence between the vette ande farrari

Re: Vortex razor hd binos

I bought the Viper HD 10x50 and they've been amazing. The color definition, clarity, and light gathering has been amazing. Been great for picking up animals or any type up in the mountains, the prarie and anything required. I went through Scott at Liberty Optics as I've always received great service from him.

Re: Vortex razor hd binos

Do you guys notice any "fisheye" to the vortex binos? I looked through some Leupy HD's and they were pretty annoying, so I want to make sure the Vortex are not that way. I'm looking for a good pair around $600 and so it sounds like the Vortex might be the way to go.
