My main press for Reloading .308 win was Single Stage RCBS Rock Chucker mount on Reloading Bench at home.

I'm looking for secondary press for using at Shooting Range or Outside home.

So, what is the best compact press for my purpose?

Re: Compact Press (Shooting Range or Outdoor)

Excellent mechanical adantage..little more bulky than the Hood..but very easliy used at the range

The Hood packs flatter and is also excellent...even in My hands.

Re: Compact Press (Shooting Range or Outdoor)

It is cheap and basic, but I have had good luck with the Lee hand press.

For its intended purpose, yes.

Thats not exactly what you asked originally. Sure you don't want to start different thread... or maybe just use the Search function and read any of the hundreds (at least) of similar threads on pretty much the exact same topic?

I had seen some folks making a small reloading bench or a box of wood which portable to take outdoor for use with RCBS RC.

So, just have an idea to do that and Purchase a new Redding T7 to use at home.

Any suggested?

1.) Harrel Compact Press
2.) Lee Hand Press
3.) RCBS RC with portable bench for use outdoor and invest a Redding T7 for use at home

Re: Compact Press (Shooting Range or Outdoor)

The main important thing that I concern for using Compact Press was their concentric which may play a major role with Bullet Runout.

But most of review are suggest that Harrel press can work better as RCBS RC.

Re: Compact Press (Shooting Range or Outdoor)

Rock Chucker is very large in comparison. Not what I would call protable for range work . It is what I use at home on my reloading bench.
the Hood is very compact, packs flat for a tool box, has less mech advantage and handle is not the most comfortable because it is thin and not well padded.
the Harrells takes up a little more space but is very smooth in operation andhas a great mechanical advantage. The handle is very comfortable and the linkages are really solid.
The Harells has a mount built in and can be attached to just about anything. The Hood I attach with a couple of C clamps.

Thanks for suggest.

I may end up with Harrell Compact Press as you recommend. There are available in 3 size.

The medium one which call 308 model can only resizing .308 win brass due to their short on stroke. Then the Large one which call Mac model will capable to seat .308 win bullet.

Just think about this compact press will usable with my next rifle (.338 Lapua Magnum)?

Re: Compact Press (Shooting Range or Outdoor)

RCBS Partner Press is what I use, I screwed 2 pieces of 1/4 alum plate to it and I c clamp it to the table at my club, I noticed most of the BR guys using either a Harrels Turret press or 2-3 Partner presses, I got mine used for 40 bucks.

Re: Compact Press (Shooting Range or Outdoor)

For loading at the range, assuming using brass that has already been sized/primed at home on the 'main' press... get the RCBS Partner. Works fine for seating boolits for load development. Kind of iffy in my opinion for F/L sizing, but there are people who do just that with no problems.

$70 new, occasionally you can find 'em used as mentioned.

I've also used Lee 'C' presses or hand presses for the same... they work but just feel too damn rough in operation for my tastes.
