Remington 700 in AICS 1.5, 20 MOA base, Burris XTR rings, votex viper pst 6-24x50. Shooting 6 inches high at 100yards bottomed out, any ideas? Multiple people seem to run this combo without any issues. Any help is appreciated.

Re: cant get 100yard zero

Since its a Remington, it shold be very noticeable if your base was on backwards.

What height are your rings?

+1

Take out the zero stop shims.

Re: cant get 100yard zero

Bad machining?
I have seen a similar problem with the Rem 7600 (trying to boresight). We tried several base-ring-scope combos and nothing worked. Turned out the reciever was out of spec.

Re: cant get 100yard zero

Base is on right, no shims installed, could rings be on wrong is there possibly cant in burris xtr's? Thanks for the help

Re: cant get 100yard zero

Is it a new action/scope and everything?

Or have to had a zero on this rifle before with a different scope?

Trying to rule out that your receiver may be out of spec or as also mentioned the scope may be defective.

Re: cant get 100yard zero

When rifle was a stock 700 police it had lupy rings, cheap vortex diamond back shot great. First time shooting with 20" barrel with brake and aics chassis brownells #080-000-765 steel base. And the xtr rings and pst purchased used here off the hide. Has anyone ever got the wrong base from brownells? Box says 20 moa...

Re: cant get 100yard zero

Will try centering the erector tomorrow thanks dirtyname did not think of that.

Re: cant get 100yard zero

I would bed the base and hold the front up about 2 sheets of paper

.20 of JB weld kwik will cure it

Re: cant get 100yard zero

Have you been able to zero with another scope before, or is this the first time shooting the gun?

Edit: Like the poster above said, make sure you bed the base. Remington bases are notorious for not lining up well.

Re: cant get 100yard zero

Is it possible that your front action screw backed out a couple turns? That would cant the receiver but probably not enough to bottom out your elevation.

I would take the action out of the stock, take the scope outta the rings, lap the rings, bed the base, check it for level and put it all back together. If the problem persists, your receiver is out of spec or the scope is defective.

You'll need to explain how the front action screw would affect the relationship between the scope and the barrel.

Re: cant get 100yard zero

With a 6-24, I'm guessing you're going to be shooting at further distances too. Why not just get a 150 zero or 200?

Not a lot of folks are aware of erector centering or own a bore sight to do it. PM me if you have any questions or do a youtube search. Any cheap bore sight will do if you dont have one.

I hope this works for you. I know the feeling when you think your expensive shit is all f'd up.

Re: cant get 100yard zero

Did you pull the elevation turret and verify that there are no brass shims installed.

Since it was a used scope.

I was able to barely use 30 moa and get a 100 yard zero.

Something is definitely up with this configuration.

I suppose it wouldn't. I had it happen on one of my rigs and it really messed with my zero so I thought it was worth mentioning regardless. It may not be the source of the problem but it could be compounding it.
