My new Mega Build

I sadly sold my 16" POF to someone who made an offer I could not refuse. I really liked the rifle but for some reason it just did not click with me after selling my last Mega Maten. So I built another one.

Samson 15" rail
Troy low pro gas block

FAB Defense SR-25 Stock

Burris PEPR mount
Harris Bipod

Will shoot it this weekend. If it shoots as good as my previous Mega I'll be happy.

Nice rifle! I do have a question and this is not meant to downplay a fantastic rifle. But, why does the rail not match the upper?

Might be that Mega matches the older DPMS specs, the new DPMS specs place the flat top rail slightly lower. A lot of handguards come in DPMS low and high versions.

Mega has their own height, its between both of DPMS' heights.

I love Mega and I have two MA TENS and two AR15's Billets but I couldn't live with the mismatched rails and the white paint.
You bought the wrong Samson ~ I just put the Samson STAR 10-13 on one MA TEN and it matches <span style="font-style: italic">pefectly</span>.

I regret to inform you, good sir, that you are wrong. Mega manufactures their uppers to the DPMS 'high' spec, and that's direct from them.

Do you have measurements to the contrary?

I am digging that Samson rail! I just got a MATEN ambi receiver set, and I was contemplating the ADEX rail, but seeing that Samson made the decision much easier.

So the question is exactly which Samson rail did you use? If you look at Samson's sight, it clearly states that the STAR 10 rails are made for the higher AR10 receiver (as smschulz mentioned above) but doesn't even list the Evolution rails for AR10s. Any chance you used an AR-15 Evolution and that is why the rail heights are different? I have no idea if that is possible but I am just hoping that there is an Evolution rail made that will match up to the MATEN receiver.

1/8" is .125"
3/16" is .1875"
.225" is bigger than bothe of DPMS' so I was wrong, now this measurement is from the top of the rail to the top of the charging handle channel. Maybe I got a special one, I don't know.

I have the DPMS rail the "matches" the MEGA upper on both of my uppers and it is low.

I really wanted a Samson on my mega because I have a 15" on my Spikes AR15. Samson does not make on specifically for the .308 but they make one branded for the Black Rain .308. I ordered one from Marks Armory. It was only 12" long but it came with a special barrel nut and a ring inside the rail that tightened on the barrel nut. I used the BRO barrel nut and the 15" rail off my Spikes on the Mega,and put the 12 on my Spikes.

It seems the rail height on the BRO is shorter than the Mega causing the gap. It's disappointing but not a huge deal. I'll live with it for now until Samson comes out with the new .308 rail or I find a deal on a Troy TRX.

It shoots awesome. 3 rounds to sight in the optic and then put 5 rounds into a Nickel sized hole at 100. I love the Mako stock for the bench or prone. It's half the weight of a PRS and the retractable monopod is slick. I have a UBR for more mobile use. It loves the 168 A-Max and the 168 Barnes TTSX over 45g of TAC.

Hi Len Nope ,Mega does not have their own height....Mega Ma 10
uses the DPMS high profile. ive built four of the Mega's and used the troy trx battlerail high profile rail(dpms) on all four.they line up perfectly Wash

Yes they do ~ see my example above.
You just need the Star rail not the Evolution.
All you need to do is get the right one.

I really don't like quad rails which is what makes the Evolution so appealing. The BRO Evolution for the .308 uses a steel barrel nut with a ring cut into the grooves on the inside of the rail. This ring compresses and tightens the rail. Simple enough. The BRO rail only came in a 12" length which did not cover the gas block on my rifle length gassed barrel. So I improvised and swapped the 15" from my AR15 which has a middy gas system. The 12" covers that fine and the 15 looks awesome on the Mega. Putting the Evo over a standard barrel nut allows the groves to line up and effectively stop rotation. It works with the exception of not having the rails perfectly lined up. I have nothing on the front rail anyway as I am mounting a Vortex Razor HD Red dot on a 45 degree rail as a back up short range sights. The JP Vtac does not even have a rail so what's the difference right? With the red dot mounted on the rail just in front of the reciever you can't see hte tiny misalignment anyway and it won't affect function.

So I guess I'll be the only one with a 15" Evo on a .308!

Well, yes they do have a rail that does match.
This is on my 6.8spc and the top rail matches perfectly.

However, the point is if your scope mount never spans the upper or you don't have any BUIS sight plane issues > then you are correct it doesn't make a difference in performance.
It just looks bad but again not a fatal error performance-wise.

That rail height mismatch would drive me insane, and I'm not a great fan stainless finishes on barrels....but if it shoots well and you like it, those are just cosmetics as long as you don't plan to run BUIS?

You never did say how you got on at the range with it.....or did I miss that bit?

I sold my DPMS build with the JP V-Tac rail on it. it really did not do it for me for some reason. it was a quality piece but a bit simplistic. I put on the Razor HD red dot on a GGG 45 degree mount flush to the receiver on the Samson. Can't see the offset so it will do for now. I can't leave anything the same for long anyway. I shoots like most Fulton barrels sub MOA. I've only had it out to 200 so far as time has been limited. It loves the 168 A-Max over 43g of TAC. I love this stock for the bench. I have decided on a Magpul ACS-L over the UBR due to weight. I'll put the carbine stock on and take off my comp and put a flash hider on it for deer season. I tested some 180g Accubonds thick shot awesome.
