XLR vs Whiskey-3

I am just looking for some first hand experience between these two chassis. The price is relatively close with the XLR coming in a few hundred cheaper by the time you upgrade it to a folding stock and get magazines and such. I am just curious if there is anything I should consider between the two.

You need to reach out to LoneWolfUSMC on this, he has time with both Chassis systems and if you are putting a Rem 700 in it I would definitely reach out to him.

In fact here is a review video on the Whiskey 3

Re: XLR vs Whiskey-3

I was hoping he would respond as I know he has hands on with both. I will actually be putting an M2008 into it but close enough.

Re: XLR vs Whiskey-3

the only bad thing about the whiskey 3 is it get's hot in the summer and cold in the winter.

i have one and love it it is very comfortable and very adjustable.

Wait... I thought the fixed Whiskey 3 doesn't allow for a folding upgrade as an "a la carte" option???

Do you like a traditional feel or a AR type rifle?

Really they are completely different when you shoulder them.

Re: XLR vs Whiskey-3

Slowkota, I believe you can upgrade the original Whiskey 3 chassis to a folder, but not the newer models.

Re: XLR vs Whiskey-3

I am trying to decide between the two, but leaning towards the XLR for my Tikka (varmint hunting rifle) and save the couple hundred dollars. Although I have been thinking about getting the KRG folding stock for my Sako TRG.

Re: XLR vs Whiskey-3

The stocks have a totally different feel, as LoneWolf has stated.

mnshortdraw (look him up here on SH) also lives in Kodiak, and has a KRG stock. I bet if you PM'ed him, he would let you get behind his stock.

The XLR tries to mimic the AR-15 feel, and, to me, is hard to get a proper hand to trigger relationship. But many people like it, I think a lot depends on how you are built.

Re: XLR vs Whiskey-3

That's correct that you could upgrade the gen 2 versions as seen in the video from fixed to folding but not the newer gen 3. We do have some kits left for the gen 2 but with the gen 3 there were several reasons we went away from the upgrade option.

Our chassis will take the TRG bipod but it's really not meant to as the TRG has a little steel plate in there where the bipod latches and we didn't include that plate in the Whiskey-3. The better option we think is to get our spigot mount and a good rail mounted bipod and you'll have a better mounting position and it will cost less.

We do have a hard skidplate in the works that will mount to the forend and help the heat transfer issue, but any exposed aluminum will have it.

Thanks,
Justin

Spray on a thin coat of Rhino liner (or alike rubber in a can) in color of choice and needed locations. Gives it grip too.

LOL... I thought the 3 in Whiskey-3 was the Gen number!!! Hahaha

In my defense, these only came on my radar within the last month or so

Even simpler get some foam and stick it where you need it. I've been using this stuff for a while on my hunting gear, etc:

You can pick it up at your local Hobby Lobby. If you've ever handled an XLR chassis, it's similar to the stuff they use on the cheek piece.
