Just looking for some feedback, and if users would recommend it, or a different mono upper?

thanks

Re: Anyone using Vltor VIS upper?

I had a LMT rifle length MRP. It was nice, very solid and the quick change option could be important to some. It was too heavy for my taste, so I sold it.

Reports of the VIS are good, but I have not had one myself. Vltor will soon release a NSR version of the VIS that will be a little lighter. Might be worth a look.

Unfortunately the Mega offering is gone.

Re: Anyone using Vltor VIS upper?

We've done a few builds with the VIS rails. It is one of my favorite rails to build with, very simple design. When you are inserting the barrel extension into the receiver, add a little penetrating oilt to the extension and be sure to line up the barrel correctly. It is a very tight fit.

Good luck and send me an IM when you are ready to order one, I can see about getting you a deal on one.

Re: Anyone using Vltor VIS upper?

I built one on a Black Rain lower, Absolutely love it...

Re: Anyone using Vltor VIS upper?

I have a Noveske Afghan barrel in a Vltor mid length VIS. It is a little heavier than similar length rifles, but has been 100% reliable and is an absolute laser.

The downside would be the weight, and I don't need all that rail space. Other than that it is my go to rifle.

The rifle plain shoots, no zero drift, all different types of rounds...

It's good to go.

I would say go with a Mega monolithic, but apparently there is a copyright issue going on with the design.

Re: Anyone using Vltor VIS upper?

I had John Noveske build me an 18"stainless steel barreled ,5.56 SPR using his favorite Vltor VIS upper and I have nothing but praise for these systems. They are durable beyond belief, hyper accurate. Went back and had another platform built buy him using his 12.5" stainless steel barrel and same upper system. I just thought the 18" unit was a laser ,this 12.5" system out to 350 yds. is as accurate as its bigger stable mate.I would definitely recommend using the Vltor system on any build.

Re: Anyone using Vltor VIS upper?

thanks for all the great feedback. I just started a build on one of the Controlled Chaos/seekins group buy lowers. Im still debating building out the upper or going with the noveske afghan upper which comes with the VIS.

Re: Anyone using Vltor VIS upper?

I'm glad I found this thread.

I have a couple of LMT MRP Uppers (rifle & CQB) but the limited options for barrels (or the requirement to send a standard barrel to DBMG) has kind of turned me off.

Because of this (<span style="font-style: italic">and my desire to build a 6.8 SPC II hunting rifle with a 1:11 twist and possibly a 6.5 Grendel down the road</span>) I plan on selling some stuff (including my rifle length MRP) to finance getting a Vltor VIS.

I'm still trying to decide between the VIS-2 and the VIS-2A. The 6.8 SPC II build will have an 18 inch barrel.

BTW, I love my MRPs. They are excellent. I just want more flexibility.

Thanks

I agree, I also have a Noveske N$ Afghan with the VIS upper and do't notice the weight difference from my 2nd Noveske with
out the VIS upper. It's my best shooting AR.
