Anyone have any experience with STS? I found their M24E2 and really like the prospect of a 1/4 MOA guarantee on a CADEX chassis.

Does their rifle live up to the rating?

M24 E2

Re: Superior Tactical Solutions

I took a look at their R700 SPS for $1,200 plus some change. Price is a bit high for what they are offering. I'm guessing that the SPS tacticles that do not make the cut, for this sale that is, their actions are used as donor actions for the higher priced builds that Mr. Turner is selling. Just a guess, but it seems logical. At least that is what I would do since the SPS tacticles are fairly cheap to get.

For the gun that you are looking at, the E2, I would go for a GA Precision or a Surgeon before I went with this build. In my opinion, the $5,500 price tag just does not constitute a price tag this high. I realize the the Cadex Chassis is a high priced item, but by looking at the base specs it just does not seem worth $5,500.

Most shooter like a "large" bolt knob, not a small knob that STS uses on the M24E2 build. For $5,500 I would expect a Jewel trigger installed and not their version of the X-Mark trigger.

I would not expect that many builders would include a scope rail since most shooters would want to choose their own rail giving them an option to choose either a 0 - 40 MOA rail depending on the optics internal adjustment. Not that this is a big deal, just something that I noticed.

I don't understand the reinforced bolt handle. Isn't the bolt handle on the R700 action strong enough as it is? I noticed a picture and there is, what looks like, a hex screw on the upper part of the bolt handle. Not sure even why this is here, since the handle is welded to the R700 action from the factory. Don't really get this part of the build.

As far as their quality. I have read in other forums that Mr. Brad Turner does some really fine work. I did a search for reviews on this company, since I had never heard of them, and I found some alleged bad reviews of them on the basis of STS telling the customer that their rifle, rifles/work that was sent to STS, would be done at a certain time and customers had a rather difficult time in contacting STS to inquire about their property. These STS customers allegedly reported that they were forced to higher an attorney, contact ATF, and local law enforcement to get there rifles back.

From what I am seeing, the STS rifles are a bit on the high side compared to what the rifles come standard with.

For example, the "ERT" for $2450, is sold with a Houge over-molded stock. But the picture they are using for the "ERT" shows a rifle sitting in what looks to be a Bell & Carlson. Maybe his proprietary barrel threading and chambering techniques are great but not to warrant a $2,500 price tag for a rifle that is sitting in a Hogue "Over-Molded" stock.

STS is really on the high side, i.e. $$$$, for what is offered. I know that for a complete Strike 50 chassis is around $2700. But to say that a trued/blue printed R700, shillen barrel, and the other "base equipment" is worth $2,700 +/- is a bit of a stretch. JMO

Re: Superior Tactical Solutions

Remmy bolt handles are welded now? They used to be silver soldered, hence why some people broke them off.

Re: Superior Tactical Solutions

STS is currently building a full on rifle and a barreled action. I sent Brad my Cadex last March and thats where the M24E2 concept came from. The customer service has been exceptional. When there was an issue with the delivery of the Defiance Brad offered to send me his persobal rifle to shoot until my Defiance was done. We've had multiple hour plus conversations going iver the specs and his procedures. Hopefuly ill have the first rifke ready to go in the next couple of weeks. If anyone lives around Miami and wants to checkout his work let me know

Re: Superior Tactical Solutions

I agree that it looks awfully pricey. I just love the CADEX chassis, and you can't build a GAP on one. I may send my R700 with a CADEX chassis to GAP to true up, but I'm not too wild about waiting forever to be able to shoot again.

I know that the deal with these chassis is that a large surgeon knob, for example, will not fit into the hole of the folding stock unless your lift the knob a little.

Thus smaller knobs.

This is the core chassis of the MSR, which has a much different bolt arm.

Re: Superior Tactical Solutions

My original quoted time was 18 weeks for a full build off a Defiance action. If you supply the parts to Brad it will considerably shorter. Along with the build he is supply load data and 100 rounds of loaded ammo, so the minute it shows up I can hit thr range. I ordered mine back when he was running a special..total I think I was discounted over 800 off the build.
I too love GAP, and Mike at Tac Ops for that matter but I didn't want to wait 12-16 months.
I still recommened Brad based off the customer service (Mike also talked with me at length over what I wanted and what he though was best for my application) If you want some details over how things have gone with STS shoot me a PM. Best of luck with the build, they're all top notch

Re: Superior Tactical Solutions

I here ya on the wait time. From what I am hearing, most all of the gun smiths and custom builders are at least 12 weeks out and that is very few smith on the 12 weeks. A great deal of them are even longer. I don't think you are going to find any smith out there that is going to be shorter than 12 weeks. With 2nd amendment scares and the election, they are all backed up and I don't see it getting better any time soon.

Why can't GA Precision build a rifle on a Strike 50 chassis? Its the same R700 action that STS uses. The Surgeon bolt knob is not that big, or at least not on a size level of a Badger Ordinance. It really doesn't matter. If the Strike 50 needs a smaller bolt knob then that is what it has to be. I just didn't realize that. I have a buddy that runs one but I never really discussed the bolt knob with him.

I know Ga Precision's wait time is really long. You may give Deadly Precision Gun Smithing out. Lorenzo Young is the smith/owner and does some really fine work and the last time I spoke with him he was about 12 - 13 weeks out. In regards to truing and blue printing it really doesn't matter who you go to, that is as long as they are a good smith. Basically what I am referring to is that truing & blue printing is just that. So any good smith is going to be able to provide you the same results as GA Precision and probably beat their lead times.

What ever you decide, good luck. Look forward to seeing some range reports on that bad boy. Those Strike 50's are awesome chassis!

Re: Superior Tactical Solutions

The original Defiance that was ordered had a lengthened ejection port which wouldn't work with the top rail on the chassis. I discussed the bolt knob with Brad, I too think it looks kind of ridiculous but it a compromise I have to live with.
Unfortunetely I we still don't have the new Defiance. Brad offered to send me his personal 300wm to shoot until the action was ready. I elected to send him a R700 to rebarrel and mount up until the Defiance is ready. He has done everything within his power to help me get some trigger time until Defiance supplied the action.
I love the chassis, don't know if I would spend that kind of money on another one but it is pretty sweet. On the same not Chris at Drake Associates has been great to work with in regards to the chassis and its upgrades.

Re: Superior Tactical Solutions

Damn, that scope is HIGH! Check out how thick the scope base is, and then how high the rings are. Look how far away from the barrel the objective lens is! Damn!

Looks like the small bolt knob is required for the stock to fold.

No idea how much that chassis costs, but $5500 for a trued R700 with a nice barrel screwed on, dropped into a chassis seems like a whole heap of money.

Re: Superior Tactical Solutions

The chassis is where quite a bit of the money goes. They're running 2,500 right now! if the Ashbury was out at the time I probably would have gone that route. but I'm happy with the Caddex.
If you look at the STS LRT package it compares with most of the other Rem 700 build out there
