Never jacked with any. Old school...rely upon my years of reloading. Any suggestions on free or pay programs???

Re: Loading/Ballistic laptop programs...suggestions???

I picked up a copy of "Load from a Disk" for use as an Internal Ballistics program. Maybe not as "super high techie" as Quick load but for my needs it's been more than cost effective.

Only time I use it is for when I start out with a new bullet/powder/case combination and pretty much just to determine a starting point.

No software will replace the need for working up a load both for accuracy and safety.

Also has some nice tools built in such as the velocity correcting tool for those that have to put their chronographs out farther than 10 feet. At $65 it's useful but not a wallet buster.

Has an "ammo library" feature as well so you can keep track of your loads with trajectory tables/charts for each.

I don't mess with them either. My load manuals have drop tables and such for different ballistic coeffecient bullets traveling at different velocities. All I need to know is the BC of the projectile and the velocity of the projectile at the muzzle

Yes, this works. But only AFTER you have developed a load.

With Internal Ballistics programs you can build a load with just a few known facts. Case Length, Case Volume, Bullet Diameter, Bullet Length, Finished cartridge OAL, and powder.

Rather than searching through half a dozen manuals, just do one worksheet and you can have a nice safe starting point. Even for a brand new "Wilcat" that you dreamed up for your own use.

Not really. People have always "built" loads using "case Length, Case Volume, Bullet Diameter, Bullet Length, Finished cartridge OAL, and powder" without ballistic programs. These programs only became available in the past 10 or so years. People have been loading very accurate ammo for a long time. Elmer Keith didn't use Quickload.

QuickLoad is the type of program that I think you are asking about. I have not used it, but have heard talk of it at our local range.

No he didn't. But how many guns did he tie to a tree or fence post than fire using a long piece of baling twine while developing a load.

Gotta start somewhere.
