i have a chance to shoot at a range that goes to 2400 yards next month.
i have some good loads for both rifles that should take me to 1000, 1000+ for the 260. however with the chance to go further, i would like to take a few loads in both calibers to see how far i can get.
308 is a 24" remington 700 5r. currently shooting 155 scenars with 47gr varget and 175 smk with 43.5 gr varget with good results out to 600 (max distance i normally have access to).
good results on the 260 with 139 scenars, 42.3 gr h4350 .010 off lands and 43.2 gr h4350 behind 140 berger vld targets set 0.040 off lands. Both rounds fit in AI mag. (had to go to .040 with the bergers to get this to work but i can get 3 in the same hole at 100 with this setup). i've been testing the bergers because of their high BC and the potential beyond 1000.
I also shoot 139 scenars with 40.7 gr h4350 and they shoot great but its not something i would want to stretch.
260 is a custom from accurate ordinance, 26in rock creek 1 in 8 twist barrel on pierce action in a AX chassis.
260 has a 5-40 march and the 308 has a 3-24 march. both scopes are mil mil. both in badger rings, both with 20 moa bases.
