Interested in learning more about the difference between the "old style" remington trigger and the new one. I have been searching pictures and notice some differences, but what should I be looking out for? Are there 2 different OLD STYLE triggers? Some have the flat safety and bolt stop? Besides the safety arm, notice one has 2 dimples between the retaining clip and the other only has 1 ? I guess my question is . . . Is there an OLD STYLE and an OLDER STYLE? Thanks for the help. Next question is, what is the dual sear all about?

Re: Old style VS New style remington trigger?

The older style that you have as your top picture has that tab sticking up to lock the bolt handle.
It requires a bolt with a notch in the body right where the bolt handle attaches.
I can't tell you exactly WHEN remington stopped doing that, but if you try to use the older style old style trigger on a newer bolt, it will not work.

Re: Old style VS New style remington trigger?

Also, your top picture has a mis-adjusted c-clip. The other dimple is there, just covered up by the clip. It needs to be rotated about 180 degrees to engage properly.

Re: Old style VS New style remington trigger?

The pic of the top trigger looks to be a newer one just prior to the X-Mark etc with the hollowed out trigger shoe and not flat back. Guess is the flat safety used until 67ish was added to the much newer trigger assembly.

Also the 721/722 triggers and 700's from their start in 62 until 68 to early 69 had 2 piece steel stamped sears, thereafter the sintered metal 1pc sears were used.

Bolt lock was used from the 721/722 series and on the 700's until about 82 IIRC.

Also be carefull in using the word 'nipple' in any posts, alot of us old pervs just looking to be stupid!!!!!

Your right the trigger should be solid on the early triggers ,also the riveted pins that hold the housing together were not like that on the early triggers . The pins holding the housing together would be flush with the housing and the head of each pin will have a cross stamped into them.

Re: Old style VS New style remington trigger?

Yes Sir on the pins or lack of on the early 700 triggers. I have never been able to verify exactly when the ugly rivets were left as they are. The smooth ones just looked much cleaner or finished! Would guess mid 70's or towards 80????? If I would have payed attention to that issue over the yrs with the 100+ 700's I have owned, tore apart or worked on I could have figured it out!!!! Perhaps I indeed have a memory or lack of remembering details disorder??

But at least I ain't no engineer!!!!

Re: Old style VS New style remington trigger?

So If I am understanding correctly, there are several different variations of the "old style" trigger. And different style safety arms too? I have been asking alot of questions to people close to me that know this stuff, but I think they are getting tired of questons, considering they directed to this forum.
Thanks for the clearification. I edited the post to keep the "old pervs" minds out of the gutter. KIDDING...
