I just put one together & looking for hunting bullet/load data. Any input would be appreciated. My current scope is a Leupold 2.8 - 8 x 36. Twist is 1 in 9&1/2. Thanks.

With a 9.5tw barrel you're likely going to be limited to <160gr bullets unless you're looking to use it in higher altitudes.
The 162gr Hornady series are great match bullets and a pretty solid "medium game" hunting bullet line-up.
They also make a 154gr SST and 139gr GMX which are both meant to bring higher efficiency to tough hunting bullets. I have not shot the SST or GMX in 7mm, but in 6.5mm they've been very good.
Those later 2 bullets will stabilize in a 9.5tw barrel.
Overall the caliber is excellent, sounds like a nice rifle.

I've shot this caliber for years and love it. Minimal recoil compared to a lot of other calibers, but plenty adequate.
For deer I like to use the flatter shooting 140 SBT (spitzer boat-tail).
Start at 45 gr. of H4350 or 48 gr. of H4831SC and work up. I also really like RE-19 with this. RE-17 is the absolute speed giver in this combination. Start at 44 for RE-17 and 46 for RE-19.
Remember on the RE-17 that it has a 'soft' pressure ceiling. You won't see pressure signs until it's way over the top.
If you want to go with the heavies then I recommend H4831SC, or H1000, RE-22 or even RE-25 I loaded a bunch of 'case-full' loads with the RE-25 and 175's I found it was just about right when switching to a magnum primer. Start around 50 gr. for that. and 47 for the RE-22 44 for the RE-19 and work up.

Great cartridge, built a rifle for my first wife around it. Recipes above will work fine. You can shoot anything in North America with it. Wish I had my old load data to share with you but it seems I was not allowed to take it with me. If memory serves me try finding a Speer #7 loading manual, it has good info in it.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm still breaking this barrel in & it is a 1/9 not 1/9.5 as I stated earlier. Had tolerable groups with 145 gr Speer & 140 gr Bergers but now have loaded the 168 Bergers w/ RL19 & IMR 4831 and also the Hornady AMAX 162 gr. w/ RL 19 & IMR 4350.

The 9tw will stabilize the 175SMK easily and should do the 180 Bergers as well, but the 180's are pretty long so under certain conditions and speeds it may not be successful.
The 175SMK works at 9tw/2500fps/0' DA, I know that.

I use IMR 4831 to push hornady 175gr round nose at 2300 fps in my Ruger #1, Mauser 98, and a old pre war Brno. Will have to check but I believe its 42 grains. I got the data from the Hornady manual a few years ago and liked it so I stuck with it and haven't tried anything else.

That is pretty close to the original '92/93/95 Mauser loads the Spanish used against us in 1898.

I just built a couple 7x57's on Remingtons with a lightweight theme. One was for me and I was able to take it hunting for Mule Deer here in CO. I rolled a big buck with the 140 Accubond over IMR 4350. I'm impressed by the performance as it seems the velocity is in that range where bullets perform well. The 6mm Rem was loaded for short actions, at least in the older short action the model 788 (I believe). I don't know the action length on that model though. It was only chambered in SA rounds.
The 7x57 is a bit too long for the Rem SA, it would probably work in a Savage SA, as the Savage is noticeably longer.
When I quit spending my money on other shit, I am gonna have a 7x57 tactical style rifle built, I love the round, when loaded to modern pressures, it will outperform the 7-08 with the heavier bullets.

Made it to the range Saturday. Just a bit gusty but managed two good groups. Both were with the Bergers VLDs. the 140 grs went into 3/4" & the 168 grs went 5/8" vertically. That vertical load may need more powder to cluster better. Barrel is about 90% broke in according to the Lothar Walther procedure so I expect groups to just keep getting better. Will try the 140 Accubonds after deer season. Gonna load the 140 Bergers & head to the woods this weekend for the Texas opening weekend for deer.

yes, Long Actions. My hornady book suggests COAL around 3" for the 7x57 Mauser. That is longer than the SA mag box by a bit.
They feed just fine in the two I've built on long actions.

I LOVE my 7x57 its an Interarms MkX. It like the heavy bullets better. I have used the Sellior&Bellot 173gr factory ammo. Ive also used the Hornady 154gr soft-points with great success. Whitetail just collapse like you unplugged them. Fartherest "walk" was 10yds.

My little 7x57 is on a chilean Mauser . Timney trigger , Butler creek with a bed and float plus a fresh crown . I've shot a few coyotes , 2 mule deer and a bear with this little gun . Probably my favorite meat gun . I really like the Partitions in 150 and 140 but wanted to use this Nosler BT load for what I had intended it .

despite my user name i have been without a 7x57 for several years, i gave the 1895 chilean mauser that my grandfather gave my dad who gave it to me to my son. i just got myself a beautiful 1908 brazilian with a bold trigger and wilson barrel in a curly maple stock. i havent worked up a load for this one yet but it shoots amazing .5" groups with priv 139g. the load the 95 liked very well was a 139g hornady over imr4350 but i dont recall the exact load. it did shoot less than an inch with a timminy trigger and the factory barrel cut back to 24". my son got the dies and all the supplies and load data with the rifle. i plan on loading the 140 accubond for this one and will start with re22 since i have a bunch of it and am out of 4350 at the moment.
