currently - KMW 260rem with A1 stock with surgeon bottom metal.
I am now running a heavy steel can (AAC Cyclone) on a 26" barrel. This is great for prone and bench but really sux when I go mobile. Shooting positional is like holding a 6lb bass out of water on a fishing rod. I would like to run this rig for comps but I really drop points on the freehand stuff. Since I almost never shoot unsuppressed anymore and the barrel is got near 3000rds, I would like to chop barrel/acquire new, shorter barrel and possibly place in a AI stock. I may go to a titanium can to help with weight. What do you recommend on barrel length/contour for a 1000yd capable 260rem capable of decent mobility. I cant imagine I will shoot past 1000yds. Thanks

21-22" fluted MTU contour and TBAC 30P-1.

Re: Need advice on 260rem build/rebuild

I have one of the GAP "Valkyrie" builds, in 260. My barrel is a 1:8.5 Bartlein that measures 21.5" recoil lug to crown.

RP brass, 43.6gr H4350, Hornady 140bthp

One-holes at 200 yards

Using JBM and the "litz" BC, using 2800fps works perfect out to 1000 yards.

medium or light varmint 26-28"

I have a 19" with the same load and it shoots lights out but I am only getting 2700 out of mine. I dont need any faster because this will get me to where I need. No need to wear out the barrel any quicker than that. I also have a 28" that shoots just as well so I can use that one if going out to longer ranges. I am getting 2850 with 43gn H4350. For my plinking load I use the 123s with 42.8gn H4350 and that is 2950FPS and deadly accurate. I can go up to 45gn and get 3100fps out of it but I have no need for it.

22-24" mid weight bbl. Comp between heavy bench and light weight stalker.

Re: Need advice on 260rem build/rebuild

I recently saw a Desert Tactical with a 22" barrel that was a really compact package. Even with a TB can mounted on it, it felt very balanced.

Turbo - how much does your rifle weigh?

Re: Need advice on 260rem build/rebuild

Not sure. It's pretty dense with the M2008 action. Probably ~13 minus optic.
