I am looking at the hensoldts in FFP. I obviously prefer the 4-16 because of the NH1 ret.

I was just wondering if the 4-16 is as easy to get behind as the 3-12? And if there are any negative if I go with the 4-16 over the 3-12.

Any info would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

The 4-16 is very easy to get behind. Good eye relief. You won't be disappointed. I have one and love it.

Only difference is the 4-16 has a little less travel than the 3-12, and doesn't go as low on magnification as the 3-12, its also a hair heavier. Other than that not a difference, both eyeboxes are the same good easy image.

I have a 4-16x56FF with the NH1 reticle, it has an amazing eye box. If I had anything that I would change on the scope it would just be to go to CCW elevation turret. I have seen the new 4-16 at SHOT with the new knobs, it is cool but I don't know if they will be available with the NH1. Get the NH1!

Thanks for the info. The CCW elevation turret is a good call. Iam going to have to do some research to see if its available.

He's some advice guys, I'd stay away from Hensoldts at the moment. I'm trying to send mine out for service and it honestly looks like I'm SOL.

I think your scope is fine, it was that crummy rifle you had it mounted to that was the problem

Give me a couple of days and there will more than likely be a write up. But honestly based on the response I've gotten from Zeiss Sport Optics at the moment...it is not promising.

Re: Hensoldt 3-12X56FF vs Hensoldt 4-16

I have the Hensoldt 4-16x56 with the NH1 as well as the 3-12x56 with the mil-dot. I do not find a significant difference in the eyebox at similar powers. That is to say they are both excellent. I was hesitant about the NH1 when trying to decide on which to buy, but I really like the reticle. The post with small clear area above is perfect for even small targets at great distance. The half-mil hash marks are nice for holds and ranging as well. The optics are very impressive on both. At the PTS Fall Match, the Castle stage was directly into the low, morning light. The image on my 4-16 was impressively clear without a lens shade. Most of my other scopes are degraded significantly in such conditions.

Advantages of 3-12:
cheaper, fairly light weight, wider field of view for hunting, even more compact, perhaps slightly better image quality (similar to my swarovski binoculars in image quality) and low-light performance

Advantages of 4-16:
better reticle, more magnification (although I mostly shoot at 5-14 power), still very compact

I have the 4-16 on a TRG in 260 with 26 inch barrel, my long range and competition rig. The 3-12 is on a 308 TRG with 20 inch barrel, my hunting and lighter weight rig. They both work very well in their respective roles.

Hope this helps, if you are in the NC/TN area you are welcome to try them out. I have not had any problems with either scope.
