Anyone else read this book? It's a fictional story of one of the many doomsday scenarios. Just finished it in three days...good read, lots of food for thought.

Re: Patriots

Can you post the name of the author so I can find specific book you're asking about? I imagine there are a lot of books with the title Patriots.

Re: Patriots

James Wesley Rawles...he has two others in the series, Survivors and Founders which was just released. I plan on getting both soon. He also started survivalblog.com.

Re: Patriots

I've read it, but as it gets farther away in time from the doomsday "event", it gets more ridiculous. It's a good book and fun to read, but it will be EXTREMELY difficult to predict events and how they will unfold. There are some good ideas for prepping.

However, I think the most prepared people are the Amish who already live off of the grid. They already live primitively and are accustomed to it. If everything we know crashes, it won't affect them one bit. If you truly want to be prepared, study them.

Re: Patriots

I agree that the farther into the story the more fictitious it becomes but it is just a work of fiction. No one knows for sure what is going to happen. I do however believe that if there ever is an event like this the looting and out and out lawlessness will be on a scale far exceeding what was seen during katrina.

I never read it but the same thing (^^^^^) happened to a few of my buddies.

Re: Patriots

Patriots was good, Survivors was ok. I wish I would have saved my money on Founders. Not to ruin it for anyone, but it was a bunch of rehashed material from the first two, with very little new.

Re: Patriots

I read both and am now a sorta-prepper. O.S.A. Is much better written, and much scarier. I found it hard to read, but then I have a little girl about the same age as the kid in the story.

Re: Patriots

I thought that Patriots was great - I've read it a few times. One Second After was very good, but is a more an entertaining piece of fiction than a source of "prepping" information.

Survivors was downright terrible in my opinion, to the point where I wouldn't have thought that Rawles wrote it if his name wasn't on the cover. For this reason, I am quite hesitant to spend my time and money on Founders.

I read Patriots last year...good read and am reading One Second After now. Couldn't resist the Black Mountain NC setting. Familiarity with the settings in the book makes it more real. I am no prepper but our lifestyle of hunting, fishing, trapping, farming, raising beef, wilderness backpacking, horses and all kinds of shooting/reloading just draws me to those types of books.
