This is what it would look like:

PerfectReticle.jpg

Quick disclaimer: The depicted FOV is not to scale. The text and bracket are not part of the reticle, just there for your reference.

-I put the thick leg on top so as to not obscure game's front leg, which I view as critical for judging shot placement.

-The thick leg would be 4 MOA thick, or maybe even six, so as to be able to bracket an animal's vitals in poor light at relatively close range out too 100 yards or so.

-The thin parts would subtend .4 MOA. Fairly visible until really low light, yet doesn't obscure too much of the target for precise shot placement.

-Horizontal windage reference. Major at 2MOA intervals, with minors in-between. Elevation adjustments would be handled via turret.

Mil references would work just as well. Doesn't matter to me as long as the windage marks and the turret adjustments are the same.

For me, this would go in a high quality, yet light weight fixed 6x w/ a 42mm objective.

Very similar except for positioning of the bottom post. Does that scope come with an elevation turret and do they make it in a 6x42 fixed?

I would also have the post closer together for bracketing vitals in low light at relatively close ranges.

Nope nothing in a fixed power. Haven't seen a fixed power Swaro be imported in years. Pretty sure the 6x24 went away aftyer they switched from the AV/PH to the Z3/Z5/Z6 series. The only comes from the factory in the z3/z5 ballistic turret models.

Re: If I could have made the perfect hunting reticle..

Thanks Chris. I don't think anyone makes my perfect scope, but a guy can dream can't he?

I also am a hunter and really like what you came up with. If i where to add anything it would be a couple dots below the cross hairs.

Re: If I could have made the perfect hunting reticle..

Just bought a fixed 6x super sniper for my hunting rifle. I prefer fixed 6x scopes on all my hunting rifles. Not sure why they went out a of style.

So mount the scope upside-down! Actually, that might not be a great idea. The rings would have to be pretty tall to clear the elevation turret.

Same here... Maybe 3 dots or hashes to hold out to 300yds (200,250, and 300yds)

And Illumination for those Dawn and Dusk shots!

Ughhh, good thing you aren't the guy coming up with new Swaro reticles.

Yah..., what scopes have you seen/used that DIDN'T have an elevation turret???

Re: If I could have made the perfect hunting reticle..

I'm not sure I grasp why guys want some kind of special reticle for hunting. I hunt the shit out of everything with my razor ebr2 and have not found a need for any special reticle. I would rather have a scope with a good mag range for game then a fixed power. If you're bracketing antlers and such why would you not simply want a good ffp scope with a great mil reticle. Seems it would be much more accurate.

Kinda like our current presidential campaign. Nothing but criticism with nothing constructive...

Guess I needed to be specific regarding the elevation turret. Sorry. Figured anyone on this board would have realized what I was talking about, but since you didn't, I was referring to an easily adjustable tactical style elevation turret.

The reticle I would like would allow me to use it in relatively poor light at close range for sunset +45 pigs, yet would still allow me place shots precisely at longer ranges in better light. I like fixed powers for having fewer moving parts for better reliability and less glass for a better picture and lighter weight. The reticle I posted above could easily be in mils. Would not matter to me provided adjustments and reticle were the same.

I know it is highly unlikely that anyone will ever manufacture this reticle. Just thought as much as we dwell on custom rifles to meet our specific needs, that preferences in a custom scope to meet our needs might be entertaining and informative too.

Kind of like our current president. You're inept and don't realize that words mean things.

"Does that scope come with an elevation turret" does NOT in any way insinuate a particular style, it asks whether one exists in any form.

Enjoy your retarded reticle idea.

Yep. You're right. I apologize for making assumptions about the content of my post on a forum dedicated to precision tactical style shooting. I really appreciate your courteous, constructive criticism. Perhaps I should run all my future post by you via PM before I publicly post them to avoid embarrassing myself.

I also appreciate your constructive criticism on my reticle idea. With all the specifics you gave me on why it's a poor design, I have much to think about. Oh well... Back to the drawing board...
