I've ordered all my parts for a cheytac build, and right now I've got a .375 barrel ordered.
My range is 2k, so I think I'd be fine with either. If I'm shooting solids, the price seems bout the same.
I really like the bullet diameter of the .408, I know I know, that's just my preference.
So, what are your opinions? Will I be fine with the .408?
Should I stay with the .375?
    Maybe I'm over thinking again.

    Re: I've got Cheytac OCD!

Having shot both I say shoot the 408 and be happy. I know the 375 has a slight edge but the 408 is so damm good you wont notice unless you shoot side by side.

Lastly dont load too hot. Stay reasonable and accuracy will suprize you

    Re: I've got Cheytac OCD!

If you already have the .375 ordered stick with it. Switching to the .408 doesn't gain you anything.

    Re: I've got Cheytac OCD!

The 375 would be my pick but the 408 is till great if you already have one.

    Re: I've got Cheytac OCD!

Yep, the .375 outperforms the .408 and there are more bullet choices available. At this point there's really no reason to build a .408 over a .375.

    Re: I've got Cheytac OCD!

Just out of curiosity, can you tell what kind of action? And brarrel. I am thinking along the same line too. Thanks

    Re: I've got Cheytac OCD!

That`s an expensive toy just to shoot 2000yds. We have shot the 338 Lapua further than that (2449yds). We only shoot our Cheytac`s if the targets are going to be at minimum 2500yds. The 408 Cheytac is what I shoot as well as some friends and if you have enough dope in the scope, then 2 miles can be achieved.

    Re: I've got Cheytac OCD!

I would agree with Dogtown that there really is no reason to build a 408. 375 is the way to go for now!

DHK, Here are the current 375 action makers (that I know of)

    Actions:
    Stiller TAC 408
Defiance (not on their site anymore but they had them at SHOT)
    Barker Machine
    BAT (single shot only)
    Barnard (single shot only)

    Barrels:

    Rock Creek
    Brux
    Bartlein

I think you're right guys....about the .375. I just got to over thinking again. She'll be a 375 when she gets built.
DesertHK, I'm going with a stiller Tac408 action, rock creek barrel finished at 30"
Baer bottom metal, and a Mcmillan supermag A5. The muzzle brake......well, that's still up in the air.

Check with Robert Snyder (I think he's still one of the site sponsors). The brake he put on my .375 Cheytac works really well. Right now I think I'm loading too hot for the best accuracy (134.6 gr. Retumbo, CCI mag. primer and 377 grain Cutting Edge bullets). Still working awfully good though. I recommend a 50 MOA ramp under your scope.

    Re: I've got Cheytac OCD!

Don't forget about Benchmark! I have their barrel on my .408 and it shoots awesome. As far as bases go I'd stick with a 1 degree.
