I'm in the market for a 5.56 suppressor. I haven't stayed on top of the suppressor world so I'm hoping for some input. It will be going on a 12.5" BCM Kino upper (carbine length gas system). I'm getting set up to be able to run the gun with night vision (have a PVS-14, ordered a DBAL-I2 yesterday) so flash suppression is a priority. I'd like a QD can with as minimal POI shift as possible and length/weight are important also. The sound reduction is lower on my list of priorities although I don't want to spend good money on a suppressor which does little in the way of suppression.

I've spoken with Surefire and the SOCOM 556-RC was the recommendation for my purposes. They are backordered currently and pricey so I've got a bit of time to research potential alternatives. Thought I'd throw the question out for opinions and hopefully learn something in the process.

Recommendations?

Re: Which would you choose?

I've got an AAC SPR/M4 and VERY happy with it, and have shot it for years next to the Surefire and love it. That being said, I'm really exited about the SilencerCo Saker.

I filmed this at the silencers are legal shoot in Dallas this spring.

Re: Which would you choose?

Phylo as you know part of the equation with flash is which powder - something that seems to be discussed more with HGs and LL, but not so much with carbines and rifles.

FWIW - I have an older SF 5.56K (a 212 with the old style ratchet collar) as well as a PVS14 that I have shot piggybacked to a 3-12 S&B as well as headmounted with a DBAL A2 - with handloads (TAC and RE15) I have never noticed flash. That said, I have never stood down range to witness flash from the other end of the tube - the more critical end.

If you look around you might be surprised what a 212 with the current ratchet collar is trading for.

Good luck

</div></div>I believe Phylo is LE and this would be for an LE application so I believe handloading is out of the question, however, I will second that ammo selection plays a large part in flash.

I have done a fair amount of shooting at night, and my 5.56 can is a Surefire MINI. I have a 14.5" gun and a couple of 10.5" guns. With the 10.5's, certain ammo will cause a large flash even with with the can on. xm193 has a HUGE flash when compared the m855.

12.5" with a 212 should suppress it better, but I wouldn't run 193 without trying it.

Re: Which would you choose?

Appreciate the comments guys. It will be for LE use so I don't have any leeway in ammo selection and my concerns about flash are mostly from my end of the rifle rather than dowrange. We don't typically sneak into anyplace and the folks we deal with usually know we're there.

Re: Which would you choose?

Take a look at the SAS M47 or the M455 with the TOMB flashhider. Not sure if you will be using it mostly as a breach gun or a response weapon but either would suffice. IMO for a dedicated breach platform I would run the M455 but for everthing else the M47 is awesome. These are both 304 stainless and select fire rated with a lifetime warranty, with a retail that is VERY affordable. I took an M47 to a LEO demo on the north side of Chicago and those guys was amazed at how comfortable an M4 was to shoot with it.

Re: Which would you choose?

Gemtech G5 or the G5T if you want it 4oz lighter. The Trek models look cool but I haven't used any of those.

Defintley go with a brand whos QD system works.

Re: Which would you choose?

Got a msg that the 556-RC may be in stock. If that's the case I'll be headed in that direction. I appreciate the info gentlemen.

Re: Which would you choose?

If POI shift is a high priority, then Surefire is hard to beat. Yes, they are pricy. Another option would be Ops Inc. Their mounting system is a bit different, but it also gives minimal POI shift in my experience, and they seem to be much more affordable. I'm not an expert in flash suppression, but I would think most cans should do a reasonable job suppressing flash, depending on ammo used. Look at the offerings from Ops Inc. They make good cans.

Re: Which would you choose?

As Johng said above, look at Ops Inc. I have a 12th model in. 223 on a Mk12 clone and also run it on a 14.5" barrel with the brake/adapter welded on the barrel to make it 16.1". While the 12th model makes it a bit nose heavy, there is minimal recoil or muzzle rise. The POI shift is negligible and muzzle flash is nonexistent with FC M193, LC M855, handload 75s, etc.
Their 15th or 16th models are smaller/lighter and have lots of good reviews here and on other silencer boards.

Re: Which would you choose?

Have you looked at Brevis. They make a nice compact can its short n fat and doest add much to the overall length of your setup.
