I'm researching which muzzle brake to order with my TRG 22. Obviously, Sako OEM is an option, but I've also seen quite a few rifle pics with Eurooptic's and NEAR brakes. Any preferences or others I should consider?

Re: TRG22 Muzzle Brake

I have Sako on TRG-22 and I know this is not scientific but to me it seems louder than the Badger FTE brake on my AICS. Both brakes are outstanding at reducing recoil to the point that you could shot them all day if your eyes hold out.

My best friend has a Near on his TRG-22 but he not shot it yet.

Re: TRG22 Muzzle Brake

I have bought a couple of brakes from RWS here on the hide. His brakes are high quality, delivery time from order to delivery was nothing short of stunningly fast, and prices were VERY reasonable. If I needed another brake, I wouldn't hesitate a minute to buy another one from them.

I'm sure they could hook you up with a metric brake for your TRG. The thread pitch for the TRG22 is 1-11 metric IIRC.

Of course, there is now a TRG22 brake for sale here on the hide's site..I put in an offer, but haven't heard back. Although I hope the seller accepts my offer, I'm sure that you could beat my offer if you gave him a full price offer. I don't want to cut my own throat as regards my getting the brake, but there is nothing wrong with my being decent to the fellow selling the brake, and maybe help him get him a full price offer.

Re: TRG22 Muzzle Brake

The way of the Ports Cut on the Factory TRG Brakes kicks up a lot of Dust Clouds when shooting prone from Dusty/Sandy dirt grounds. I have the NEAR Brake on my TRG 22 which works Great and Very Little Kick. But the best best part is the ports are not cut all the way down like the Factory Units so the Muzzle Blast won't kick up too much dust when shooting from the Ground.

If you're a Bench shooter then it won't really matter as both are great brakes and does well for it's intended purposes.

P.S. I really like the Look and Design of the NEAR unit myself FWIW.

Cheers!

Re: TRG22 Muzzle Brake

I shoot the Sako brake on both my .300WM and .308. They work great on both.

Re: TRG22 Muzzle Brake

Thanks for the replies. I am kind of leaning toward the Near brake. I would consider having the barrel rethreaded to US standard, but am a bit concerned that it might cause a problem for potential resale if that were to come about in the future.

Re: TRG22 Muzzle Brake

I shoot Elite Iron.

I have shot an older version Near, and also own Sako OEM and Roedale. Shooting all side by side by taking one off, shooting and going on to the next; with that technique I got a good feel for what seemed to work best. I prefer the Elite, however, to be fair, the Near and Roedale are very good with the latter being used on my T3Tac. I don't shoot the Sako OEM anymore. See link for pic of the Elite on TRG with OEM front sight attached.

Re: TRG22 Muzzle Brake

I also have the TRG brake on my TRG 22 and it works great for me. Feel like your shooting a 22-250 in a varmint HB rig or less. You can shoot all day with out a problem. Then again I don't shoot in areas where dust kick up is a problem. If that is consideration then I would choose the Near brake.
