Do you reload or work on guns in the garage?

Hello to all

This year I finally setup a dedicated long gun cleaning area out in the garage. I keep all my gun cleaning tools and supplies in the cabinet behind the bench.

I made three heavy duty screens that bolt tougher and span the distance of the garage door. Once the gates are bolted tougher I lower the garage door. The screens fit under the bench when not in use.

I hope this idea helps someone else.

Re: Do you reload or work on guns in the garage?

That's a cool idea. I might need to do something like that for my garage. I'm in a split foyer and I clean guns and reload in the garage since I have no where else to do it.

Re: Do you reload or work on guns in the garage?

Seems like a cool idea, but what are you keeping out, or in?

Re: Do you reload or work on guns in the garage?

Any concerns on powder getting wet? I know here in Louisiana, humidity is my main concern. That's the main reason I haven't built a setup like this one. Great idea though

Re: Do you reload or work on guns in the garage?

I like it, but am nowhere near as clean and organized in my garage.

I like the screening too. I know that here in Florida, I have to keep out the mosquitoes and need to keep the door open to let out the heat and get some air movement.

I use to clean all guns in my office/den but it was a hassle getting everything set up and putting it all away. The material for the screens cost about $100 if memory serves me. I is well worth the money and effort.

The gate is a barrier between my garage and the outside world. It serves the same function as the fence does in the back yard. It stops honest people and animals from wondering in invited. When the weather is nice I can put the dog in the garage.

No I do not powder in the garage. My loading room is seperat from the garage.

Ok, that makes sense, it didn't look like it would keep bugs out, so I was curious.

I load and clean in the garage also, door open as much as possible, can't beat fresh air!

I've noticed around here, if 2-3 guns are in cradles, getting cleaned, or set up on bipods facing the street, people who walk by just give a stupid look and pick up the pace. And find a different route the next day, unless their not bothered by it.
Like I said, I was curious, never thought about dogs and such though, it isn't much of an issue in this neiborhood.

Now if I go into the house for awhile, I shut the door, especially on garage sale Saturday mornings!!

I would not like to post a picture of my shed in backyard. That is where I hide my mess.

. I lived in Florida for many years. I practically grew up on Clearwater beach. I also lived in Weeki Wachee Springs near the water so I can understan your consern about mosquitos. The fence wil keep out some but when the door is up bugs can still fly in above he door because he top is open. If the Mosquitos get bothersome I just put on repellant.

Re: Do you reload or work on guns in the garage?

When I retired I got a great deal (divorce sale) on a large 4-Bedroom house. Since the kids were all gone, and have kids of their own, I just took one of the Bedrooms. No Garage for me. That's for the car and truck. Warm in the winter and no "bake oven heat" in the summer with a closed garage door.

Wife has one of the other bedrooms for her "Office".

Did for years. The wife had a shop built for my Christmas present a few years ago.

She occasionally threatens to add a cot.

Re: Do you reload or work on guns in the garage?

Nice Christmas Gift!!!

My wife threatens to put my cot in the shed behind the house. I think that is the reason I never clean it out.

Re: Do you reload or work on guns in the garage?

Im in the garage as well, we recently had a new door installed and I opted for insulated panels - best option I have ever made for my garage.

During the 110 degree days in summer I can now work on my guns with a box fan blowing at me, can't do powder though as the air movement effects the scale but still with the insulation I don't have to wait till midnight when it cools down to 90 degrees.

OP - nice clean and organized garage!

Re: Do you reload or work on guns in the garage?

I don't think that counts as a garage. It's way too clean... and your missing a floor jack.

But it does look like a very nice setup. If my wife saw that I'd be screwed as I'd have to clean my garage so that she wouldn't have to smell those awesome solvent odors.

Re: Do you reload or work on guns in the garage?

I used to reload in a wood shed behind the house.

Then I had a garage built and I reload/work on guns there now.

I've kept powder/primers/ammo in the attic, in the shed and now the garage for many years with no issues. Just make sure the powder cans (some of mine are still the wrapped paper cans - just emptied a can of BLC and H322 the other day that were bought back in the early 80's) are sealed.

In the garage....heck I've done it while I've been on the mighty porcelain throne!!!!

The AC vent use to blow on my scale so I made a draft box for the scale. This is not my idea. I saw a pic of one online.

Re: Do you reload or work on guns in the garage?

I do both and fortunately have a separate 18k btu heat pump for the man cave. We get serious humidity here in Central Alabama. On nice days I open the 8X20 front door and the 10X8 rear door for a breeze.

Re: Do you reload or work on guns in the garage?

I'm in TN so the humidity isn't as bad as a lot of you guys down farther south. My garage stays above 50° and maybe gets to 75° on the hottest days with the garage doors shut. I keep the powder in the storage room in the house.

I reload in a garage when I am parked in a garage, cause I reload in my car.

I can drive with my right hand and reload with my left hand.

Re: Do you reload or work on guns in the garage?

Don't you guys have porn in your reloading area?

500G,
Every garage has porn on the wall.
But a reloading area should be decorated with antique ammo or ammo for antiques.

Re: Do you reload or work on guns in the garage?

Clark, I have heard that particular reloading room has gay porn on the computer. But since it is not safe for me to visit Dubai, I am not in a position to confirm that information.

Re: Do you reload or work on guns in the garage?

When I was a kid, my father put Rigid Tool calendars on the wall of the garage.
That has been THE garage porno since 1935 and are now collectible.
Calendar-2013-2014.jpg

They don't have garages for reloading in Dubai... just guys with names like Saeed with camel porn.... or worse.

Do you think the Snap-On girls look better than regular girls?

Re: Do you reload or work on guns in the garage?

My garage is my man cave. I found an old school desk for free and turned that into my reloading bench/cleaning station. Nice little get away location for me since the kids don't like going into the garage.
