Who would you say is the making the better barrels for ARs?
I'm looking for a building that will do 14.5" barrel and pin on a brake for me.

Re: Best AR Barrel?

A complete upper?

BCM (Bravocompanyusa.com) is top notch. They have both standard and hammer forged barrels available in various configurations in 14.5 with several options for muzzle devices.

Can also look at Noveske (stainless or hammer forged). Rainier and Riflegear could also do something and they use Daniel Defense hammer forged barrels.

I have Novekse 14.5 hammer forged barrels and 14.5 stainless barrels but would be plenty happy with DD or BCM. The Noveske's were just a better price.

Re: Best AR Barrel?

I've got a Noveske afghan upper pinned at 14.5".

SS, she shoots real nice. Mid gas. No cycling issues, soft recoil.

Re: Best AR Barrel?

For the price, quality, and performance; I have been more than pleased with the barrels I bought from AR15 Performance.

Nice barrels by all accounts, but usually only 16"+ (not sure if the OP will go to 16). I seriously considered having Adco cut and thread one for a 14.5, but decided against it due to the added expense.

Re: Best AR Barrel?

wont go that long. Looking for just a barrel that i can get the brake welded on. Ill check out noveske. Do they Cerokote as well?

With all 14.5" Noveske barrels running over $400, you could buy the AR15 performance barrel, have it cut down, rethreaded and perm attached muzzle device for less. Since you would still have to pay for the muzzle device and permanent attaching of muzzle device, you would save about $150 with the AR15 Performance barrel.

Noveske barrel:
$400 + $30 (perm attach at Adco) = $430

AR15 Performance:
$190 + $30 (perm attach at Adco) + $65 (cut/rethread) = $285

It does require a little more leg work on the OP's part but would save him money. It won't carry the Noveske name so I guess it would be up to him to decide how much he wants to pay for it.

Re: Best AR Barrel?

I do not know what you mean by "best". With a 14.5" you are not apparently looking for precision. Any chrome lined barrel will last long and shoot fair.

Agreed.

The other thing to add in is a pinned lopro gasblock or pinned FSB, that will come on the Noveske. Adco prices are $130 for the pinned FSB and $55 + a gas block for a pinned lopro. If the OP wants a pinned FSB, the difference is pretty small. A little bigger difference if it is a lopro option.

If the OP can get a configuration he wants built from Noveske, I still think that may be a very good option. They will pin for free and have VERY good prices on several brakes that are otherwise pricey. ("jakhamr81" here can likely help with a complete noveske upper).

If the OP wants to buy just a barrel, then Daniel Defense options may be good , because they come with pinned FSBs or gas blocks and can often be had for under/around $300. Also, BCM standard barrels are $230.

Lots of options.

If looking for accuracy in a 14.5, could consider a Noveske Afghan 14.5, Rainier Ultramatch or Match 14.5, and White Oak Armament 14.5. All have very good reviews for accuracy.

I see no correlation between barrel length and accuracy. In a rifle, longer barrels yield greater velocity. In a handgun, longer barrels can be shot more accurately because of their longer sight radius - which is a function of shooter technique.

I've had a 10.5" Noveske polygonal barrel for quite a while. It's a 1:7 twist, and will still shoot 1.5" at 100 yards with 55gr ball ammo. That's pretty accurate considering non-match ammo and mismatched bullet weight to barrel twist.

Re: Best AR Barrel?

Noveske's chrome lined barrels have been sub-MOA for me with march ammo.
