New Product: Target Camera System

Re: New Product: Target Camera System

Are you affiliated with the company? I'm curious if it detects the bullet going by the camera or just sees new holes in the target. Wondering how the detection works for small groups where 5 or 10 rounds are going through the same ragged hole.

Re: New Product: Target Camera System

It detects the new holes in the target. You would basically have to shoot a hole in the center of the target and then send a bullet through mid-air for it not to pick up the shot. I am affiliated, just seeing what people think of the product.

Re: New Product: Target Camera System

The website says only: "Router with 500+ yard high gain antenna." Then the guy on the vid says "whether you are...500 yards away or even a thousand..." 500+ means a lot of things to different people, but it doesn't tell me if the system will work properly at 1,000yds, 1,500yds, 2,000yds, etc.

So...what is the maximum effective range of the system?

Re: New Product: Target Camera System

400$, not bad. Has it been tested @1000 and plus?

I'm very interested but I wouldn't probably use it under 700yds.

Re: New Product: Target Camera System

I wonder how far away the camera can be set back from the target?

We shoot steel past 1000 and I wouldn't want to hit the camera with a bullet or bullet fragments.

Re: New Product: Target Camera System

the standard system is good for 500+. the hardware is being finalized for the 1000 yard model. the camera sits a couple feet in front of the target, and a couple feet to the side.

Re: New Product: Target Camera System

It looks pretty promising. If it works at 1000yds reliably I would pick one up for that price, and if it worked with an Ipad 3. Does the software measure the groups? It would be neat if something like this could be linked to the MagnetoSpeed to give velocity for each shot placed and tie it into the group size.

I wonder if you could design some sort of signal repeaters to extend the range further out?

Re: New Product: Target Camera System

Looks like you might be limited to using their targets. That would be a no-go for me.

Confirm?

Re: New Product: Target Camera System

I take it a second router set between the target and shooter would be necessary for 1000+ yards?

No, you can use any target you would like

We have a couple options on the 1000 yard unit, we are just finalizing which hardware we will be using.

At this time, it does not measure the group. Ipad and Android apps are in the near future.

Re: New Product: Target Camera System

If you can get to 1000-1500 yards and you have an iPhone app, I would be all about it.

Setting up a camera where I set in targets is not a deal, but lugging a laptop up the side of a hill to a firing point is not appealing to me. Nor is trying to use a laptop in the rain.

Re: New Product: Target Camera System

Very intresting for sure. I like the blinking last round so you can put more rounds on target and not "get lost" with your hits. As stated before, how does it do in rain and snow? Also does extreme tempature have and affext on the system? What is the largest impact area the system can monitor?

The camera is fine with the weather, and all the other components stay inside the box. If you shoot a ton in the rain, you could just drill an antenna hole in the lid.Temp, shouldn't effect it, and the impact area and be controlled by the distance you put the camera from the target.

Re: New Product: Target Camera System

Do you have to have any type of cell service to make it work? What happens when you shoot a second hole through one of the previous holes can you get a video of that happening? What is it going to add to the price when you make it work to a 1000 yds?

Re: New Product: Target Camera System

I don't see it on the website, so if anyone finds it, please post the min and max ranges from the camera to the target, the maximum "off-axis" angle, and whether it also will work if aimed at the rear of the target, because those all figure into set-up options you might need when there are other shooters about who don't shoot as if your camera cost them $400.

Also, since it uses an active laser sensor, how are its low-light capabilities?

Re: New Product: Target Camera System

The description says 500 yd + gain antenna.
What is the maximum range the system can be used assuming clear line of site?

Re: New Product: Target Camera System

We went out and did some testing on our 1000yd version today. Excellent results, 4 bars of signal at 1000 yards.

Re: New Product: Target Camera System

Any plans to make a Mac compatible version? And what do you expect the ETA to be on the iPhone/iPad build?

Seems like a promising product, especially if you can keep the price down on the 1k version.

Re: New Product: Target Camera System

Would be up for the 1000 yard version as long as the price stays fair

The best thing to do on this type of question, would be to contact customer support via the website. That will put you directly in touch with the developer. He would be the one to answer that type of question.

Re: New Product: Target Camera System

This looks interesting, I would guess that within a year or so it may be close to being fully developed and worth the investment? Reading some of the responses here it would seem to be a great idea to bring something like this to SH before marketing it, as there are some very knowledgeable questions being asked that have yet to be addressed. Great idea though-the criticism here seems very constructive.

Yes, I agree. I encourage people to contact bullseye camera systems with tech questions so they go right to the software developer. We are building this product FOR shooters, and love all the input we can get to make it more useable.

Re: New Product: Target Camera System

Pretty sweet product... I could see someone accidentally shooting the system at long range (probably not a huge concern though)

I suppose if it was really windy you could just set up a piece of ar500 steel in front of the camera to protect it.

How far can you pull the video camera away from the system and still have it work properly?

Looks really nice though. It would be great to use it in conjunction with a mil based target.

Re: New Product: Target Camera System

Will the camera/software detect hits on steel? How much contrast is needed? For example white paper, cardboard, black paper, dirty birds targets, clay banks ect!

i just got back from shooting at 300 yards. the range i was at had steel gongs and a target backboard. i had 3 targets on the backboard which was at least 10 feet wide. 3 gongs on the left and one on the right.

we were all shooting steel. when i got on target i started shooting at my paper targets. others continued shooting steel.

i was shooting a 260, the rest 308s.

the point of this is that the splatter from amost ten feet away tore up my paper somewhat. and i've seen a splash 308 tear a large nut off a bolt and take out a gong. i would be real wary of putting a camera system anywhere near anything that had enough steel in it to splash lead on the camera.

will be interesting to see how this new kit works out when folks really start to use it.

Re: New Product: Target Camera System

Somebody buy one, we need a review

Re: New Product: Target Camera System

This thread makes me wonder what hunting and shooting will be like in 50 years...

Thanks for the product information.

I think shooters have been having these same thoughts for generations. The good news is we can pick what we want from the buffet.

Re: New Product: Target Camera System

I've wanted something like this for a while now! Very much like that it can save and database targets to particular day/bullet/rifle combos. I'd very much want an Android client and would like it if one could only turn on the phone to see the shot then leave the display off. I would really like to see the ability to not only measure grouping size but also would like to see it determine the centroid of a grouping and allow you to measure the distance from that centroid to a clicked on and deterined POA. It would also be good if you could stop and restart "groups". So I could shoot 10 groups of 5 at the same target and have the application give me separate information on each of the 10 groups. Also if there was a way to help determine a "best load" based on a OCW method would be nice. But baring doing it automatically I'd like to easily be able to see the 10 groups side by side to make that determination myself. I think the easiest method to determine this would be if one could get a distance from center and an angle (polar cordinates). That would allow one to look for 3 targets in a row with small group sizes and similar POIs.

From the video I've seen it looks like the "blinking" is just showing the frame from before the shot and the frame from after the shot. If you had old standard black targets it may still be hard to see the holes if this is the case. But that is an easy thing to avoid once you know it.

Glad to see a product like this being made in my current home town! Go Ducks!

I'd love to get a chance to play with one but I think I'll wait a bit for some reviews (and the Android app) before placing my order...

Re: New Product: Target Camera System

Very interesting! I will have to look into my rainy day fund once they are proven.

Re: New Product: Target Camera System

Well, I just bought the 1000. The old legs are not what they used to be. When it gets here, I will do a work up on it and post the results.

Re: New Product: Target Camera System

I am a loss for words. I ordered one of the 1000 models yesterday. They even got my money from PayPal. Today I called them.....NO ANSWER. I guess I am spoiled, I'm used to receiving
at least some kind of notification of response for the things I buy. NOT a good way to start a relationship with a customer, I would say.

Re: New Product: Target Camera System

I still don't think I feel comfortable at 1K shooting with a $500 piece of equipment a wind gust or hold-over away.
