I'm building a stock Sendero in .300 RUM for my long range hunting rifle. I have done a Timney, muzzle brake, and bolt work. Went to the range a couple times and developed a load with 200gr AB's at just under 3100fps shooting .459" groups at 100. My question would be is it necessary to bed the action in the HS stock they come with if its got a decent full aluminum block and shooting well? How much, if at all, would bedding the action make a difference? I have other bedded rifles that needed it, but never have bedded a good shooter already.

    Re: Sendero Build Question

The stock on the Sendero's, from what I understand, is actually a Bell and Carlson - Medalist style. And if it is shooting well, I'm not sure I would rock the boat. Still, many folks like to skiff bed these with JB weld. Pretty easy to do.

They are HS stocks and that would be skim bed.

It can probably be made better by bedding it but how good is it shooting now? If you like the way it is shooting I wouldn't mess with it.

    Re: Sendero Build Question

it's shooting plenty accurate (.5 MOA @ 100 yards) to kill any animal within 700 yards. Maybe its just me being greedy and wondering if bedding it will shave a .10" or so off the group size. I've been holding off blueprinting and rebarreling it just because it seems to shoot decent enough to not want to spend the extra $700 on that. I cant imagine how skim bedding it would make it shoot any worse tho? So what would I have to lose but a few bucks...

    Re: Sendero Build Question

I'm from ther "if it aint broke, don't fix it" school of thought. Being as the rifle hasn't been trued or rebarreled and you're at .5 MOA I would shoot it til you burn it out then worry about bedding when you get it trued and rebarreled. As much as folks knock the bedding blocks in the HS and BC stocks, they actually work pretty well. Save the time and money of skim bedding and spend it loading and shooting!

How much more do you think you need to spend? Do you want to make it a quarter-inch gun?

    Re: Sendero Build Question

Id love for it to be a 1/4 gun like my A3G. But im agreeing with the idea of just shooting it the way it is and getting some trigger time in. And when the time comes to rebarrel/true it up, then glass bed it.
