Got my LMT MWS!

Hi All, I've been lurking for a while and this thread convinced me that the LMT was the .308/7.62 NATO to go with. I got it Friday and couldn't be happier with the fit and finish. I hope to find some range time this next week, and also get some pics up for you guys to see. So far, here's the mods: Harris swivel bipod, WOTAC 4.5 to 14 scope (I was one of the lucky ones that actually received their FFP scope from Wonders Optics - saving up for an NF but my wallet needs to recover first), Burris QD mount, Troy Mideivel flash suppressor, Magpul BUIS, Magpul enhanced trigger guard, and a ton of Magpul and DPMS 20 round mags. I'll post some pics ASAP. Thanks again for all the advice! Also thanks to the good folks at Ratworx USA - they were great to work with, had a genuine desire to ensure I got the rifle I wanted, and had an excellent price (with free shipping). IMHO they come highly recommended.

Re: Got my LMT MWS!

Actually I got a few minutes to myself, so snapped a couple pics. Sorry for the quality - they're phone pics. I'll try and get some better ones up this week.

Re: Got my LMT MWS!

Good luck with the WOTAC, the reviews are horrible. Very nice LMT tho! Very jealous!

Thanks man - I had the WOTAC on another rifle for quite a few rounds and it's performed well, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed! But you're right, based on the reviews, I probably shouldn't skimp on back up iron sights haha!

The backpack is a Maxpedition Condor II, and the mag vest is from US Grunt Gear (it's the AR/AK mag model). Both are top quality and very well built. Hope this helps!

Re: Got my LMT MWS!

You will love it. You can spend a lot more on a .308 rifle, the MWS is an outstanding value.

Let's see some groups.

Throw away your LMT torque wrench.

Congratulations, the LMT MWS is a stud duck.

Re: Got my LMT MWS!

Thanks guys! Appreciate the comments! I'll post a range report and some more pics as soon as I get away from work for a bit.

Re: Got my LMT MWS!

I've been looking for an MWS the past week but can't find one at the "old" prices. Seems like they all jumped about $500 in price from a month ago.

I looked at kygunco today and the list the 18" SS version in stock at $2889. They don't show any CL versions in stock but still list the price at $2499. With the SS upgrade that price is close to what I saw them listing for several months ago.

Call Ratworx USA - I checked around (including gunbroker) and they had the best price by about $75 over the next best price. Shipping is also free. They also have the LMT8 with the slick reciver if that's what you're looking for. Not sure about the steel barrels, as I chose the 16" chrome lined. Hope this helps!

Hey all. Newbie here who just bought a LMT 308 and I was surfing a reason to not buy a Leupold LR/T and I hit this thread.
Why chuck the torque wrench? I bought the 16" weapon for "versatility" I guess, with the intention of picking up a 20" stainless for slinging 308 cal slow rocks at slightly longer range. No, I didn't use the search function for "Throw away your LMT torque wrench", but I've been trying to guess and I can't imagine why.

Re: Got my LMT MWS!

get a better torque wrench and don't use the POS that came with your LMT.... pictures say it all.

also, MAKE SURE YOUR BOLTS AND INSIDE NUT THREADS ARE BONE DRY (NO OIL, NO LUBE, NO LOCKTITE, NOTHING)!! i clean my bolts and inside threads with non-clorinated break cleaner before I re-install so they are bone dry... lube'd bolts and threads will throw off your torque big time.

Re: Got my LMT MWS!

Gotcha. I did wonder about that wrench. I have real tools already, I'll give that one to my kids to play with.
Thanks for the heads up.

Re: Got my LMT MWS!

I was lucky. I had to retorque my barrel at LMT 's suggestion because I was shooting shotgun groups. They said someone must have messed with it since they fire 5 rounds for accuracy. Find that hard to believe since I got it in the unopened shipping box. In any case re-torqued the barrel with the supplied wrench (that was before I was aware it was a POS) and now it is shooting sub MOA groups when I do my part. I find it more difficult to get consistent 5 shot groups than my TRG 22. I can get 4 shots out of 5 about 0.5" at 100 yards but always get one flyer that opens the groups up to just about 1", frustrating.

Thanks man. Agree on the torque wrench. Luckily I'm a tool guy as much as I am a gun guy, so I've got about four torque wrenches that will take care of it properly.

Agree - lube on torque bolts equals no bueno! Keep them dry.

Re: Got my LMT MWS!

Need moar LMT pron. Shameless, gratuitous MWS exploitation ... With a little full frontal Spuhr/USO nudity. Bobro bipod has it's legs spread wide open. Don't look. You'll end up like me, broke, destitute, the road to .308 madness is littered with SH members...

I picked up a used 40-200 inlb Snapon on EBay for $80 after seeing the posts here about how crappy the factory one is. It appears in great shape but do you think I should have it's calibration checked?

Re: Got my LMT MWS!

Since you just got your MWS, I presume it's a gen 2? How can one tell gen 1 and gen 2 MWS apart? I understand that gen 2 has forged lower and different BCG? Any pictures to show these changes? gen 2 parts can be used in gen 1 rifle, right?

Re: Got my LMT MWS!

gen2 will say 7.62 rather than .308 on the side of the receiver, this is the biggest give away.... also, the gen2 has more of a rounded brass deflector rather than a really sharp brass deflector. finally, gen2 will have 2brass ejectors on the bolt rather than 1. that's about it.

Re: Got my LMT MWS!

Navitimer - Congrats on the MWS! You're gonna love it.

997/2man - That spuhr/USO setup is downright sick. I can't decide if I'm more jealous of the gun or the scope lol

If you see a rolling Snap On truck follow it and ask the proprietor if he can check the calibration on your wrench.

They usually mount a test bed on board as a sales tool so when a mechanic finds out his harbor freight wrench is 20% out of spec he buys a Snap On wrench to replace it.

Re: Got my LMT MWS!

Awesome pic! I did pics with both rifles and assault pacs!
