I am in the process of finding a trigger to work with my m2008. I know it says its compatible with Remington 700 triggers. I was looking at the CG Jackson 2 stage and that seems pretty slick, but i would also like a few cheaper options. I don't care about a safety, and i would assume i don't need a trigger with a bolt stop since its on the side of my action?

Re: m2008 trigger

You wont need the bolt stop. I have always used shilen triggers, they are great and the price is right. I have been using a Timney 510 straight for some time now and I love it. Timney makes several length sears. In the past badger had issues with light primer strikes. I dont know if it is still an issue but the longer sear may help. I think it is the 510U. Also the badger oversize knob will spin on in place of your ball knob if you want some more leverage on the bolt. Hope this helps.

Re: m2008 trigger

For ~$100, the Timney 510U is a helluva nice trigger. You'll just need to remove the bolt stop from the trigger. No reason to forego the safety.

My understanding is the "Huber" 2 stage trigger is the cats ass trigger, close second being the CG Jackson/Xtreme trigger.

If you go Timney though, be sure you get the "U" sear. You'll have light strikes otherwise.

Re: m2008 trigger

i do like the timney straight trigger but 8oz is a bit scary, but ill look into the 510u

Strongly disagree with the above statement. I've sent about 1000 rounds down range with the huber and 4000+ with the Jackson. I like everything about the Jackson better. Also, the Huber isn't actually a 2 stage trigger. The Jackson is a true 2 stage.

I agree 100%, the Huber is a nice trigger but has no where near the adjustment that the CG has. I will say that the Huber will hold up better in the field than the CG to dirt and muck

Re: m2008 trigger

+1 Huber 2 stage expensive thou 275+

Interesting. Unfortunately, I haven't had the chance to feel either of them, and I've got to admit, I was really just regurgitating the babble I've heard on the hide. I was hoping using the wording "my understanding is..." would relay that it wasn't based on personal experience.

I bought the Xtreme for my FN, but the adjustment screws were seized when it arrived so I had to send it back. Awaiting it's return before I can offer a personal opinion of it.

I am familiar with how it works, and I do really like the heavy sear engagement the fist stage removes...as a 2 stage oughtta be. I wasn't aware the Huber didn't work that way.

Glad to hear so many folks saying they actually prefer the Xtreme to the Huber.

The screws have loctite to keep them from coming out of adjustment. I suspect if you cranked on them a little harder, they would have broken loose and then been more reasonable to adjust. That's probably what Tom will do for you

We have four rifles with CG X-treme triggers and have put over 15K rounds through the rifles with them. The triggers are fantastic and have been completely reliable. I've had more problems with my custom actions ....none with the trigger. It is a little more complex than the average trigger: some people get frustrated trying to adjust it. But once you understand how it works, it is the best trigger out there. Here is an article that provides an in depth view: http://riflemansjournal.blogspot.com/2010/03/equipment-understanding-and-adjusting.html

Re: m2008 trigger

I had a Huber 2-stage on my M2008 and it was fantastic. Buy with confidence. I'll definitely own another.

Re: m2008 trigger

Scooter:

He musta grabbed the red loctite 271 accidentally when assembling mine. I twisted two Allen keys, holding them in the "low torque" way. Felt like the screws would strip if I flipped the key and applied more. I emailed Tom, and he instructed me to flip the Allen key and try harder. I did, and as anticipated, the scew stripped.

Bummer.
