Im working on an all purpose rig. It weighs 15.7 lbs so far and i think its ganna get heavier when my Mcmillan A4 gets here..... Is 15.7 way high compared to what you guys are sporting?

15.5 lbs for mine with scope.

I started out with a 17lb gun. Each gun I've gotten since has weighed progressively less and less. I'm trying to keep my next 308 rig under 8 excluding scope. Portability and handiness are just under accuracy in my hierarchy of important features now.

Depends on the fill... EDGE Tech, Standard, Magnum, Sniper (These are in order of lightest fill to heaviest for a McMillan)

My fn spr with scope is around 14-15lbs - seems to be the going weight for most precision rifles

Ready to shoot with a 28" HV17 barrel, McRee stock, and Harris bipod it comes in just a bit over 22lbs. I intended it to be heavy, so it will suck up some of the recoil.

If I had to guess my 24" ai ae mkiii is about 17lbs loaded with 10 round mag. Ss 5-20

Let me see, the ones in my sig are currently 7.5, 12, 7, and 10.5lbs respectively. I recently picked up another Savage and screwed on a 25" heavy sporter contour barrel, that one weights about 8lbs with a scope.

My 308 is 14lb, use it for hunting, you know its there but not to bad to pack around.

I had John Whidden build a .300WM rig that would be light enough to hunt with, but still let me punch paper long range. He used my Rem 700 action, bolt, and trigger (old style), put on a Hart 26" stainless light Palma contour with Vais muzzle brake, his custom WCW 140 target style stock, EGW aluminum 20 moa base, and Nightforce Ultralite rings. Weighs a tad under 11 lbs (bathroom scale), sans scope. If I had chosen his hunting style stock, I could have saved about a pound and a half if my memory serves correctly. It's light enough to hunt with, but I wouldn't choose it to go up and down mountains. I've shot it in 100+ F temps where the barrel was too hot to touch, and it still held 1/2 moa out to 300 yds. Just waiting for the opportunity to stretch it out.

16lbs for my AR-10 without a magazine which adds around a pound and a half.
My new bolt gun is gonna be probably at least that if not more in the 18lb range I wont know till it gets back from crescent customs.

i'm up close to 18lbs with mine. I have an m24 25.5 inch barrel, an HS Precision stock, a Tubb 4 way butt plate (that added some pounds, a Stiller DBM, and a SS 5-20x50...it weighs just a little bit

Kilmore, How do you like the retractable butt? I have been trying to get a machinist to make me one like that for my own platform. Is it adjustable for length of pull?
