I'm working on finishing my ar15 build and would like some suggestions for an upper receiver.I already have the barrel , charge handle, and bolt carrier group picked out. I just need the receiver itself. Preferably with the forward assist and dust cover. Any suggestions where to find a pretty decent one? Thanks

If the barrel I'm getting is mil spec does the receiver need to be as well? Also I'm getting the spikes tactical 5.45x39 bolt carrier group. Will that work with a mil spec setup. Sorry about all the questions. Just want to make sure I do this right.

Re: AR15 Upper receiver parts.

I'm not sure if it matters but it will be a 5.45x39 ar15 build.

Re: AR15 Upper receiver parts.

Are you asking what the BEST upper receiver is or what the most cost effective upper receiver on a budget is?

Most cost effective.

Re: AR15 Upper receiver parts.

In that case, I'd look into a BCM and Rock River.

I'm checking them out right now. I'm sorry for reposting this question so many times but I really need to know.

Re: AR15 Upper receiver parts.

Why don't you call Spikes Tactical and ask them?

Re: AR15 Upper receiver parts.

Palmetto State Armory has a deal on stripped cosmetically blemished uppers for $50 this weekend. You should be able to get the forward assist and dust cover in a kit for $15-$20. I wouldn't worry too much about the upper, most look damn near the same except for the forge mark and the type of finish.

I'm not an AR expert, but I think the only thing that would matter would be the BCG and the barrel are both the correct caliber. I would think the BCG would be the same with the exception of the bolt face, the carrier would be the same I would think. Damn near every upper is "mil-spec", only difference I know of is older colts used a large pin which made it not match up to the lower without an adapter pin.

Just my 2 cents.

Re: AR15 Upper receiver parts.

AR15 receivers are pretty much universal, mil-spec pretty well guarantees the parts will work together but most will regardless.
Your barrel so long as it is intended for an AR15 will work on any upper that uses a barrel nut, it will not work with some (any?) monolithic uppers. Your BCG as long as it is meant for an AR15 will also work with any upper that your barrel will, which again is almost every upper made for the AR15 platform.

PSA also sells good uppers at a fair price. I also like BCM.

Good luck with the build, let us see some results when its done.
