After much research and debate, I'm going with the SWFA SS scope for my 10/22 VLEH. I'll primarily be using the rifle as a tactical trainer from 25-200yds (with the occasional 300yd shot) and paper punching. I want it to be effective as a tactical trainer (capable of changing targets and distances quickly if needed).

That said, which version would be better for my usage? I like the 6x as it's usable just shy of point blank range, whereas the 10x allows much more precision. I'm worried I won't be able to effectively use the reticle on long shots with the 6x, whereas I'm concerned have tunnel-vision with the 10x. Also, the exit-pupil is much larger/better on the 6x.

Any input on which one I should go with? If I go with the 10x version, I'll be getting the side-adjustable parallax (10x42M).

It really depends how far you expect to be shooting most of the time. If you expect to do shooting at point blank range often the 10x is probably going to be a little much. If you're going to be shooting 200+ often I would want more than 6x.

I have a 5-15x on my 10/22 and as long as I'm not shooting at a moving target don't use the lowest power setting all that often but I think someone else might be totally different.

I generally prefer as much magnification as possible if I'm trying to hit something small at distance.

Agree with Ranoman5. Go with higher magnification, especially if you're planning 200-300 yard shots. Do you really need a rifle for 25 yard shots ?

I have a precision 10/22 that I shoot suppressed and subsonic 100% of the time. I recommend a variable power scope for this type of application.

I have, and recommend the 6x.

Excellent fov, and I shoot at clays out to 150 with it, dots at 50 and 100, and use it for squirrel hunting.

6x
In theory looking through a 6x at 300yds is similar to looking through a 10x at 500yds.
If the intended purpose is a trainer try to replicate the longer shots.

This thing is alot of fun.

these are at 300 yds. not 5 shots each but you get the idea. 6x shouldn't hold you back much if any at 300 yds.
