I'm looking at a l96 right now. Everyone I've seen do the conversion uses a g96. This gun I'm looking at has an aluminum frame like the g96. The guy I'm getting it from says it's 30in long the stock alone. So i want to know from others who have done the conversion is how long is the g96 stock and will the l96 work

i have both the L96 and G96
i took a picture showing the difference in length
get the G96. the aluminum is longer and stronger. it also has a magwell built in.
L96 is shorter than the G96

This is a UTG. My friend has one and it's a l96 and it seems pretty long it has a magwell in it. Is the difference between the g96 and l96 g is gas and l is spring?

Yes, the UTG is the spring L96 one. You want the one branded "Well G96".

when i was doing mine the things i considered by pictures of the various offerings alone:
1. some of the others doesn't have the adjustable cheeckpiece, which is nice to have.
2. the cavity for the magazine doesn't exist, the G96 mag well lines up well with the rimfire action...no extra work cutting and filling
3. the G96 was reviewed on the airsoft sites as being heavier
in the end, others have done the L96, but i think the G96 offers more realism and quality just by the pictures, and if price = quality of the airsoft rifle, that would dictate a better quality stock compared to the lower dollar L96.
IMO the G96 is good enough of a stock that it's worth the working rifle 250.00ish if one can't be found in the boneyards.

i'm not an airsofter nor desire to be, but i'm pretty sure the G96 is regarded as the better rifle, so if not gutting out the removable mag for "looks"......
......the mag, action, and barrel could be put up for sale for parts on one of those airsoft sites to recoup the costs incurred.

Don't get the UTG rifle..... as the internals are molded in plastic and wont be able to do the conversion you are wanting.
You need one of the gas airsoft rifles.

This may not be the place to post it but I bought a G96 with the aluminum frame a few months ago for 140 shipped and never got around to doing the project and would now like to sell i at a reduced pricet. PM me if intrested.
