First off, thanks for the help I'm just getting into reloading and am thankful for this awesome resource. Here's my problem. I'm loading .308 for my completely stock 700P. I deprimed, sonic cleaned my brass, prepped the primer pocket and neck inside and out, and they're trimmed to 2.003-2.005. I seated my 175 SMKs to overall of 2.800 but each round is hard to chamber and it leaves a little scuff mark on the round about 1/8 of an inch above the neck. I have an over all length gauge but since it's a factory barrel the round is seated no where near the lands. What am I doing wrong? I check every thing 3 times with a micrometer at every step and it's a consistent problem, not a fluke. Without a round seated in the brass it's pretty easy to chamber. Like I said, I appreciate all your help!

I found this to be pretty no nonsense.

Re: Noob question...

Thanks. I read all of the Lowlight posts, and followed them to a "T". I'll check out that YouTube video, I've watched about half a dozen already. I was just curious what was causing that 'cause I can't ask an article a question. Thanks.

Anyhow, my bet is you just need to seat them deeper. </div></div>

Ya, I have that "nifty little tool", the Hornady version. In my rifle the bullet wouldn't even come close to the lands no matter where what depth I seated it. What little I do know, I know some of those factory rifles are setup so you can't load into the lands and over pressure your rifle. At least that's what I'm told.
