Many of you know the guy behind Armageddon Gear; he was an RO on Complex B at the SnipersHide Cup this year.

Anyway, we recently got the first shipment of these mirage covers and they work great. A prototype was used by the 4th place team at the 2012 Thunder Beast Team Challenge last week.

Anyway, here are the photos

We have them to fit the TBAC cans, available on our web site.

.223 and .338 models to be available within about a week.

Re: New thermal mirage covers from Armageddon Gear

They make excellent gear! The precision rifle slings are out standing.

Re: New thermal mirage covers from Armageddon Gear

Gonna have them for your 338 cans? I ordered a 338BA from you guys and haven't ordered a mirage cover for it yet.

Re: New thermal mirage covers from Armageddon Gear

Nice!

Re: New thermal mirage covers from Armageddon Gear

I use a Tab cover for my P-1. I'm sure these are great also, but what would be the benefit of one over the other?

I'll probably get a couple to try anyway, just curious.

Well one major one is the draw string that you can tighten down around the can to help keep it in place. Hell that's reason enough for me.

I don't ever remember anyone complaining about it!

Re: New thermal mirage covers from Armageddon Gear

If you have a cover you like that works for you, by all means, keep using it!

We see a large number of covers from various makers at matches and training classes, and here's why we really like this new one from Armageddon Gear: The build quality is excellent. They are sized consistently from cover to cover and have (so far) fit our cans right every time. The chance of one getting launched downrange is very small (yes, we've seen that happen a half dozen times). Although you can cinch it tight, you can still easily retract it for cooling between stages or whatever. None of this is rocket science but these covers were executed really well.

Re: New thermal mirage covers from Armageddon Gear

I got my three covers that I ordered really quickly. They are nice, like all the Armageddon pieces. I really like that cord that tightens down around the can. Overall the construction is really nice. I would like to get two more for the 338 model cans as well!

Keep us posted Zak...

Re: New thermal mirage covers from Armageddon Gear

Zak

Very nice

I like the cinch cord idea; we have been using a rubber band on our wraps to keep them from sliding back onto the barrel when changing positions – a different brand of course and very well built, just that as they get used a bunch they tend to loosen up some.
I was sitting at the Pioneer in Westfield today having coffee, let me know when you’re in the area

Thanks for the info

Re: New thermal mirage covers from Armageddon Gear

I see that the rear of the cover wraps in behind the suppressor.

Is it difficult to get the 30BA onto the brake with the cover on?

Re: New thermal mirage covers from Armageddon Gear

No, but normally either the suppressor cover is put on the barrel before the can, and then pulled forward; or the threads are just seated and then the cover is pulled back so you can torque it with your hand on the suppressor itself.

Re: New thermal mirage covers from Armageddon Gear

So it's easy to get the cover over the brake. Cool. I will buy one when my form 4 is closer to approved.

Re: New thermal mirage covers from Armageddon Gear

just got mine for my 30ba that's enroute. Thanks for the heads up Zak.

Re: New thermal mirage covers from Armageddon Gear

any idea when the Coyote browns will be back in stock for the 30P model? shows up as not able to be selected on the website....

Re: New thermal mirage covers from Armageddon Gear

Interesting, looks an awful lot like Dale's cover (Elite Iron).

Elite Iron's start out as flat and you have to wrap them up. The Armageddon wraps are enclosed and only have to be pulled to be tightened.

Re: New thermal mirage covers from Armageddon Gear

How would you say these compare with the TAB gear SAS2? If you had a TAB gear would there be any advantages in your eyes?

Re: New thermal mirage covers from Armageddon Gear

All of my experience is with the SAS3s, Seven of them in our group. Good wraps without a doubt but it seems in time they tend to wear in, not stretch and get larger but more-so just loose some of their tension , and slip back onto the barrels fairly easy when changing positions or raising the barrel vertical. That’s why I made a comment about using a rubber band on the wrap which gives it just enough extra holding capability to keep it in place.

The SAS2s having a cinch on both ends holds the wrap on well you just have to use more effort to slide it on and back when cooling at times or packing up

I think that having the ability to just tighten up the cinch cord on the covers from Armageddon once in a while in relation to how hard you are running the gun on a course or age wear and tear to keep it in place is a smart idea, looks like a good product to use.

Good products no matter what you use, can’t go wrong with either its all about how they function and what works for you

Re: New thermal mirage covers from Armageddon Gear

Damn, out of the multi-cam for my new 30P. Any idea when you might get some more back in Zak?

Re: New thermal mirage covers from Armageddon Gear

Just got my cover from Armegeddon Gear for my TBAC 30P-1 and I concur, it fits perfect, quality is excellent.

Re: New thermal mirage covers from Armageddon Gear

Do they not offer these for any other manufacturers? <span style="text-decoration: line-through">I went to their site and I don't see any can covers...</span> Nevermind. I didn't click on "Store" and now I see them...

Re: New thermal mirage covers from Armageddon Gear

Any chance a color comparison between the Ranger and Foilage green?

Re: New thermal mirage covers from Armageddon Gear

I don't think I have a photo of the ranger green but the Foliage Green is in the photo up top with the rifle. It's more of a gray color. The ranger green is more like a brighter OD green

Re: New thermal mirage covers from Armageddon Gear

To bh-ltr, since your question was not addressed, allow me to. The TAB GEAR SAS2 model is constructed with bungee cord sewn into both ends. This method of manufacture is such that it requires the outer material to come in contact with the can. It is constructed for it's own set of deployment parameters.

The Armageddon Gear suppressor cover being promoted here by Thunderbeast, in my opinion, is a copy of the TAB GEAR SAS3 with webbing sewn to the sides. The TAB GEAR SAS3, which we have been making for a couple of years now, is manufactured in a way that keeps the outer nylon covering from contacting the hot suppressor in any way.

To oneshot.onehit, thank you for your business, PM sent.

Tony,

We wish you continued success; you make some very good products.

I would like an opportunity to put this in perspective.

When we first started to do business together, you only made the SAS1 and SAS2. The SAS3 was a direct result of suggestions I sent you in an email in April 2008. We greatly appreciate that you made the SAS3 model as a result, because it is a better cover for most of our customers' needs than the SAS1/SAS2 were.

But if we go back in time even further, the SAS1 is virtually identical to the old JET thermal covers (which I don't think were made by you - if I am mistaken I apologize.)

Thermal covers are not rocket science and once the general idea is grasped, much of it comes down to small details and execution.

My goal in this thread has been to highlight a new product that we think is good, while not calling any other competing products out for their pitfalls.

If you'd like some more detailed feedback, I'd be happy to discuss on the phone or at the SHOT Show.

best regards,
Zak

Perspective is a good thing.

I'm sorry I didn't go back and research the original emails, I stand corrected when I said we've been making the TAB GEAR SAS3 cover for a couple of years, it's been four years and seven months according to your dates.

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">But if we go back in time even further, the SAS1 is virtually identical to the old JET thermal covers (which I don't think were made by you - if I am mistaken I apologize.)</div></div>

The TAB GEAR SAS1 is similar to the Jet cover, however, you may have forgotten, or didn't know, that the Jet cover was designed by Jason Baney. The same Jason Baney that runs the "Smack the Smiley" match here. Jason had come up with the design and had approached Jet about testing his prototype out, Jet being one of the major players in the Titanium suppressor market at the time. Jet began selling Jason's design as their own. In plain language, Jet stole Jason's design and began selling it as their own. I'm sure Frank remembers this time frame since we were threatened with law suits by Jet.

I had been approached about making a suppressor cover at that time, this was all about six years ago. I had heard that Jason was making a suppressor cover so I called him to see where he was with it. That is when I learned about Jet. Jason didn't have a patent to his design so I could have just said thanks for your time and made the covers anyway and have been completely legal. My moral code and always trying to treat people as I want to be treated wouldn't let me do that though. so I suggested that instead of designing a cover on my own that I make his cover and pay him royalties on each on sold, which we did. I even paid Jason the royalties on the SAS2 I designed as well. I eventually bought Jason out before the SAS3 came about.

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Thermal covers are not rocket science and once the general idea is grasped, much of it comes down to small details and execution. </div></div>

You're exactly correct about that. That is why I was shocked to see you selling another companies products instead of ours, especially after it was your input that prompted us to build the SAS3. There can be no doubt in your mind that what you are selling now is the TAB GEAR SAS3 cover with some webbing sewn to the sides.

If you were experiencing issues with our cover we would have loved to have heard some feedback from you on how to make the product better. We beg our customers to let us know how our products are working in the field and are always open to suggestions on how to make our existing products work better.

In the over four and a half years that we've been making the TAB GEAR SAS3 cover I've only heard of two customer who were not happy with the performance of their cover. We worked with both of those customers until they were happy and at not cost at all to them.

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">My goal in this thread has been to highlight a new product that we think is good, while not calling any other competing products out for their pitfalls. </div></div>

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">We've tried a host of different mirage covers to prevent this problem, and many of them have been lacking. Until now.</div></div>

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body"> The chance of one getting launched downrange is very small (yes, we've seen that happen a half dozen times).</div></div>

Who are the major manufacturers of suppressor covers right now Zak? Elite Iron, and TAB GEAR. You've already discounted the question of it being similar to the Elite Iron cover, while completely ignoring the question about how they compare to TAB GEAR. So, everyone who is reading this thread knows that only leaves us when you talk about covers being launched downrange and lacking in mirage mitigation as you do on your website, especially since you used to carry our products, and now you don't. I have yet to see one of our covers launched down range when installed correctly, and I'll put our cover up against anyone in the mirage mitigation claim as well.

Please don't mistake my comments as trying to talk you into going back to our products, I'm not. It's good to be in America and you can do whatever you want to do. I'm just laying it out here since you used to carry our products and are now introducing another company as making a better product, as an explanation of what I see as another company copying our products, and you know they are too.

There's no need for you or anyone else to bring up the line about, I should have patented them if I were worried about someone copying them, or about capitalism, and that's how America works, or I should feel complimented about the lame line of imitation being the sincerest form of flattery. I get all that, but it boils down to Armageddon Gear copying our product.

I'll be at SHOT at the Rifles Only booth should you want to come talk about anything.

Re: New thermal mirage covers from Armageddon Gear

I'd like to publicly thank Tony for taking the time to chat with me on the phone tonight. I can't say we see eye to eye on the similarity of the AG cover to the SAS3, but I do respect him and he makes good products.

TBAC will be continuing with the A.G. thermal covers because we think they better serve our customers (until someone comes up with a better thermal/mirage cover).

Re: New thermal mirage covers from Armageddon Gear

I tried the SAS2 on my 30P-1 in the store. Seemed to fit ok but felt like it was just a tad shorter than it should be. I ended up just leaving the SAS2 there at the store (figured it made a good holder for the suppressor and I don't need it until I can shoot the thing).

I liked the idea of having the cover stay put and I usually don't to a lot of really hot strings so I thought the SAS2 would be the best fit for me.

Seems that the Armageddon Gear option is much like the SAS3 except for with an improved tightening idea. I guess I'll give the SAS2 a go and if I find things getting overly hot and I need to cool things more often I'll have to consider my options. I do remember that pulling an SAS2 off the can and onto your barrel while hot is considered a no-no as it will melt the bungie on the end supposedly...

Appreciate the constructive criticism and the keeping things civil gentlemen.

At the request of his customers..... Tony leaves his covers about 1/4" short of the end of the can to not risk any tearing from use. I also request this when I order covers from TAB Gear. Tony makes a hell of a product, his CS is excellent, and the fact that he is a great person makes TAB a go to source for a lot of equipment.

couldn't agree more, I run his SAS 2 on all my weapons when filming hunts, and I have yet to find a more durable, low drag, well fitting mirage cover that holds up to my needs.

my thoughts exactly. not to mention the tremendous support he has given to all the matches over the years. as i mentioned in another post, i finally got to meet him at a match and hes a super guy and i run his stuff and love it.

Re: New thermal mirage covers from Armageddon Gear

You're welcome Zak, my pleasure.

You are 100% correct in that we don't see eye to eye at all, and never will, on the issue discussed.

After what I learned last night on that phone call, there's no doubt in my mind that the people I am currently surrounded with, in life and business, are exactly who I want to be aligned with.

I look forward to looking you in the eye and shaking your hand at SHOT, if you get the time to come by the booth.

To all of you who have expressed support both here and behind the scenes, thank you for your friendship, your support, and your business, we all appreciate it.

Re: New thermal mirage covers from Armageddon Gear

I just wanted to say as an owner of a TBAC can and about 3 TAB gear products. Both of your products are superior to anything else I've experienced in the market.

As a business owner, and a person who has gone through the patent process a few times, I understand a lot of the frustrations it seems are being expressed about intellectual property rights here.

Tony, if you really do feel your designs are being infringed on, and you don't do anything about it, you weaken any patent claim that you have in the future, even if you haven't filed yet. One of the first things that a patent lawyer will ask you, is 'how long have you been using this name/design' and can you prove that? You have to vigorously defend your designs, or you lose the ability to do so in the future, and this thread could be used against you later as evidence of complacency.

Just my thoughts, best of luck to you both and I commend you on the restraint/professionalism shown above.
