Looks like i can get the Swaro for around 2200 including eyepiece and the razor for about 1400 including eyepiece. Anyone have any experience and can tell me if there is 800 difference in the two?? Its for hunting only, no digiscoping. Thanks guys

Re: Swarovski ats 80 vs Vortex razor spotting scope??

I have looked through them both, I found that the Swaro's pull way ahead of the razor's the first and last light, which makes the difference in a hunting situations.....
like they say, Buy once cry once, you'll never get rid of a Swaro, unless your upgrading...
the swaro's are a little lighter too..have you seen the new atx/stx, pretty Slick

I know I would never get rid of it. I am leaning more towards the swaro, I just love their glass. Haven't seen the new model in person yet tho, just on the Internet. Thanks man

Re: Swarovski ats 80 vs Vortex razor spotting scope??

My vote would be the Swarovski especially if you plan on keeping it for a long time. A friend is an optics dealer so we do comparisons all the time. I own 2 Swaro's (ATM-80HD, STM-65HD) and have compared them side by side with several Vortex's and it's plainly obvious to me the Swaro's are better. As far as details for the Swaro's the HD has a tiny edge over the non HD glass and I could probably live without the HD glass if cost was the deciding factor there. I also prefer the 25-50 eypiece over the 20-60. The 25-50 is noticably superior. I own both and hardly ever use the 20-60 anymore. It's a very rare day in the field that 60x is usable on the 20-60. The 25-50 is just brighter and crisper under all conditions over the 20-60. I spend a lot of time looking for tiny deer in AZ and I'd take the Swaro advantage over a Vortex any day provided I could afford it.

Re: Swarovski ats 80 vs Vortex razor spotting scope??

How does the 80 compare to the 65? I am kinda torn between the 2 as well. I like the 65 for weight but the 80 for low light conditions. Everything I have read says the HD is not a huge deal unless ur taking pics thru them. I could save quite a bit of money going with a 65 non HD over an 80 HD. I have also heard that about the 50x eyepiece. Seems swaro keeps getting votes. I haven't had any buyers remorse over buying the swaro binos so it sounds like I just need to bite the bullet and get the swaro. Now I gotta decide between the 65 and 80 and if I want HD or not. Any comments on that?

Check out the ATX, it's modular. You can go with the 65mm now and if you feel you need to go bigger, buy the bigger lens. They are coming in 65,85,95mm lenses.

Swarovski Spotting Scopes

Just an FYI, the ATM/STM is going bye bye and should be marked down wherever you shop. The ATS/STS and ATX/STX will be the two spotters of their line. Both are hd however the ATX/STX have swarovision.

Call or PM myself or Jay if you have any questions.

I carry the 80 most of the time but sometimes on a backpack trip I need to cut weight hence the 65. My knees won't haul the weight like they used to and they let me know when I try to go too heavy. The 25-50 noticeably improves the 65 in low light over the 20-60 (it helps out the 80 too) and in my opinion the 25-50 is worth the extra money. You will not miss having 60x, the superior 50x will more than make up for the difference. I didn't mention before the added field of view in the 25-50 is a bonus too. As I said previously the HD is such a small difference I'd live without it if I couldn't afford it. On a rare occasion I think it's helped to pick out an ear or antler buried in the brush but for general glassing and score assessment I don't think it helps. When comparing HD to non HD side by side there are minor color differences and the HD has a small advantage in sharpness/definition. Almost not noticable at first but it's there.

Here's the scoop on the ATS-STS/ATM-STM confusion. Swaro's original series was called ATS-STS and were aluminum bodied. To upgrade the line they went to ATM-STM and were magnesium bodied to lower the weight but increased the cost. With the introduction of the ATX-STX models they are going back to the ATS-STS aluminum bodies to cut costs to the consumer. The only difference between the S and M models are the body materials (aluminum vs magnesium). Not long ago the S models were discounted and now the M models will be discounted. That's where the confusion comes from with Swaro re-designating the scopes back to calling them ATS and STS again.

I missed out meeting the rep a week ago to see the X series but all the guys in the shop liked everything about them except the price. They are expensive. $4k+ for an ATX-85.

Re: Swarovski ats 80 vs Vortex razor spotting scope??

I've never compared the two side by side, but I will say that the Vortex is a great spotter for the money. The fact that a mil reticle was available on the Vortex was the deciding factor for me as I use my big spotter much more often while shooting then hunting.
