On a .308 you order a tight bore. Does the same go for a 300 win mag?

    Re: Tight bore question

running a tight bore isint mandatory , thats kinda like some guys say you can't build an accurate tactial rifle unless your use a 5R barrel , its just a matter of personal preferance.

I have heard some guys say that it can make for a finikey rife but its never been my experiance

    Re: Tight bore question

Tight bore 30 cal barrels originated "back in the day" when it was discovered that palma guns shot better using the garbage ammunition provided by the host country during the world championship team event(s).

If your traveling to the UK/Australia/New Zealand/S. Africa and will be shooting Radway Green then by all means, get a tight bore.

If your using premium US/Finland made bullets, then you don't need to mess with it. A .300/.3075 bore will shoot just fine. Some like the tighter bore because it gives a pinch more velocity. Just know that pressure will go up as well with a given load. Manage your powder charges accordingly.

Biggest thing to remember is the pilot size on the reamer. A floating pilot IS NOT universal. It should be fitted to each bore. If your running a "squeaker" barrel the pilots need to be sized accordingly. Make sure your smith knows this ahead of time as its not to be taken lightly. I own every pilot PTG makes from 17-50 caliber. Including the tight bore stuff that Obermeyer makes.

At $8.00 a piece its a considerable investment.

    Good luck.
