Rifle Scopes What scope is on your long range hunting rig

Re: What scope is on your long range hunting rig

I have the Vortex HS LR 4-16x44, 1/2 moa clicks on an external turret. Tracks great, can dial to 700Y on my 308(sps tac), and 850y on my 7mm mag(Tikka T3 Lite) in one turn.

Re: What scope is on your long range hunting rig

I've got a similar set up for my rifle, i'm running a 280 ackle y improved for my long range rig, and i've topped mine with a 5.5-22x56 zs moar at the moment. i used to run an npr2 and liked it, but wanted to try the new reticle. i tend to switch it around but that is my current set up for range.

the rifle i took to new mexico after oryx is a 300 win mag, i topped it with a 3-18x50 z6i with the ballistic turret system, i'm comfortable with it out to 500-600 depending on the animal

I am currently running a Schmidt and Bender PM II. 5*25*56 and like it but it just kills the balance of the gun

Re: What scope is on your long range hunting rig

My "beater" rifle wears a 6.5-20x40 Leupy to keep the weight fairly low. My heavier "LRH" type rigs wear a 6.5-20x50 MK4 M5-A, the big ugly 34mm main tubed locking turret Leupy with TMR Reticle. I used that scope on my 6.5WSM to take a nice Muley @ 655yds & a speed goat @ 370yds. I just switched that out for a USO I picked up here on the hide: 3.2-17x44 IPHY T-PAL EREK setup. I haven't had the time to zero the new optics yet. The MK4 M5-A will go over to my 7mmSAUM.

So, this is what my setups look like:

My "beater"
Rem 700 SA/LH in 7.82 Lazzeroni Patriot
6.5-20x40 VX III w/stoney point ele. turret

LongRifles Inc Stiller 6.5WSM
USO T-PAL EREK 3.2-17x44

Southern Precision Stiller 7-RSAUM
6.5-20x50 MK4 M5-A

Re: What scope is on your long range hunting rig

Viper PST 4-16x mil/mil on my 300WSM.

Kinda big but I was glad I had it when it actually came to making a 450 yard shot.

Re: What scope is on your long range hunting rig

25 06 winchester : nightforce ffp but it's big and heavy so i'm looking for a lighter scope to get me to 1000 yards

204 ar : swarovski habicht 4-12 with stadia lines under the crosshair (good to about 600 yards)

Re: What scope is on your long range hunting rig

My pronghorn rifle carries a S&B 3-12 and ART reticle.

My hard core hunting and stalking rifles all wear a NF 2.5-10. I really like the illumination for early and late situations or when the game stays in the shadows of the dark woods.

I'm perfectly confident and practiced for any practical ranges necessary for hunting situations. Although, I much prefer the stalking and getting so close you can smell them.

Re: What scope is on your long range hunting rig

I use a mil / mil Leupold on mine. 50mm obj to bring in as much light as I can. I use to use it on a bench gun but then upgraded and "passed it down the line". It does a great job for me as a hunting set up. I know just where to dial the knobs (due to range practice) for different distances. I have taped a cut down 3 X 5 card to the inside of my stock to ensure I dial it in correctly for the shot I am about to take. I normally wouldn't have bought a MK 4 for a hunting rifle but as I got older I needed stronger lenses so rather than selling it, I just used it to upgrade my hunting rifle.

Just a thought.

Re: What scope is on your long range hunting rig

Both my TRG 22 and my AIAW have NXS 8-32X56 scopes. The one on the TRG has an NP-R1 reticle, the one on the AIAW has HST, ZS and a MOAR reticle. At my age I need all the magnification I can get.

On my Remy PSS in 223 I have an NXS 5.5-22X50 scope.

Re: What scope is on your long range hunting rig

You don't mention the terrain or ranges you will be huntibg with this rifle.
For a do it all hunting scope S&B 3-20x50.
Excellent optics, dependable, and a well suited magnification range.
Most my hunting is longer range since the terrain is open, but still happens i get close up to animals.
Having a scope with a minimum of 5,6,7,8 etc is in my opinion way too high for moving targets within 100 yards.
And a top end of 20 will let you be able to shoot as far as you're bullets can carry a suitable amount of energy downrange and further.

Re: What scope is on your long range hunting rig

I have a Weaver Tactical 3.5-15x FFL with their Enhanced Mil-dot reticle on my Rem 700 5R 308 Win and a Bushnell Elite 2.5-16x mil-dot on my AR-15.....

Re: What scope is on your long range hunting rig

I run a Premier Light Tactical 3x15x50 with mil dot reticle on my hunting rifle.

Just last month I shot an antelope at 625 yds in Northern Montana. I aimed 3.8 mil high and one shot later he was done.

For me, its crucial to have a mil/mil scope so I can make long shots on the fly with my rangefinder.

Can't beat the March F 3-24X42. Great, rugged small package, which would easily get you out to 1000. Great reticle and easy zero stop. I love mine.
