Gunsmithing Timney 510 or Timney 510U for a Surgeon 1086 ??

Re: Timney 510 or Timney 510U for a Surgeon 1086 ??

Not many people are going to purchase a top of the line action and drop a midlevel trigger into it. At least that is my perspective on this. When my Surgeon action gets here it will be getting a jewel but mine is for bench shooting here locally so it won't need to be as durable.

Thank you Terry Cross!!!

TGagnon:

This rifle is going to be a all purpose hunting rifle - I love Jewel triggers but always worry about failures in the field. I never had a failure personally on some of my other rifles wearing Jewels, but its always in my mind.

From what I have researched, guys like the Timneys alot for field/hunting rifles!!

The only reason I'm posting on you comments is because they send a message which describes Timney as cheap. I ask in your opinion, what makes Timney mid level? I hope it not the price. They are well designed, and built with quality parts. I seldom hear any complaints about them, and when I do it's personal, not functional. I ran Jewell's for a long time, and still consider them great trigger which have their place. Twice while out having fun shooting, the over travel screw backed out, and I could not pull the trigger enough to fire. That's my reason why I switched over to Timney. My point is, Timney is a great Trigger, not mid level.

I have had timney's malfunction on mausers and other odd ball rifles but timney replaced those triggers at no cost to me. I have had them fail but I do agree that they are great triggers. I would however be putting a higher end trigger on a custom action and only used jewel as an example that I have done myself. There are other makers and fore my field rifles myself, I actually stick with 700 factory triggers that I tacweld any adjustment screws in place once I get my settings were I want them. I can get them for free and if one ever breaks or goes out of adjustment somehow I won't cry over it. So far this hasn't happened but every time I mention this modification someone asks why or gives me an equal ration of shit. It works so I do it, is my reasoning.
