Colt LE901-16S

Re: Colt LE901-16S

Pull the Trigger and let us know!

Re: Colt LE901-16S

I have one. Right now, here is my take on it.

Nice weight for the rifle. Balances out very good. It's not so heavy in the front, to me it is perfect. I did not like the Vltor stock, so I put a PRS on it.

I like the ambidextrous controls, nice added feature. Standard trigger with it sucks, has long travel and to heavy. Will put a better trigger in it, which will help with accuracy.

Speaking of accuracy, in this rifle, all I shoot is m118LR. This is always my main concern with every rifle I purchase. If it does not shoot m118lr worth a damn, I will sell it. So, with a PRS stock, jp springs on the trigger, topped with a lupy mk4, the rifle is sub MOA.

I am not always consistent with groupings, something I have to work on. I have had some nice tight .5 MOA groups with it. Kind of a surprise to me when I am not always consistent. The more I shoot it, getting tight groups more and more. So, it is a keeper! Shoots better than I can get out of it. Making me wonder why I have a .308 bolt gun.

Checked it at distance with using Kestrel Horus Atrag, spot on with all shots taken out to 700 meters. Will be checking at further distance soon. MV is about 2550 fps according to the Atrag.

Only issue that I have with it right now, is after one mag is fired, sometimes two mags, it will fail to feed. I have no idea why. First 1 to 2 mags, no hiccups, then it will start to FTF. So anyone who may have a idea why, let me know.

It is a good rifle, so once I get the issue fixed, it will be a fine rifle.

Re: Colt LE901-16S

Picked my LE901 last week at the dealer. It looked good. Only thing I noticed is whoever installed the rear BUIS had the clamp misaligned. A quick fix with a screwdriver. Trigger is typical AR.

I took it out to one of my shooting spots today for a shakedown.

I dialed in the iron sights at 50 yards with some surplus LC-66 Ball ammo. Elevation was good but I had to dial in quite a bit of left windage to get centered. Then I slapped on a Leupold MK 2, 3-9x scope from another AR. Dialed that in then moved back to 100 yards.

How does she shoot?? I'm very satisfied. I shot some Federal GMM and some reloads consisting of match 168 gr HPBT bullets with Varget and RE-15. I only shot 3 round groups due to lack of ammo.

Here is my first group at 100 yards. I was pleased..

Here is the rest of my shooting today. Could be better but honestly I wasn't trying too hard. With load development, a better trigger, better glass and more effort I'm sure these groups would tighten up considerably.

I shot 25 rounds. Perfect functioning with a regular PMAG. The ejected brass pattern was consistent. Recoil not bad.

I'm still not sure what optics will end up on this but I'm satisfied it will be a shooter.

It took awhile for Colt to get these to market but I believe they took their time and did it right.

I'm a happy camper.. Thanks Colt!

Re: Colt LE901-16S

Hey 8up, will you post a picture of your 901 with the PRS stock. What buffer and spring did you use with the rifle length tube?

I'm thinking about putting a PRS on mine.

Thanks!

Re: Colt LE901-16S

Here ya go Cliff, the stock made a hugh improvement on shooting long range. I used what I had laying around, it was all DPMS, rifle extension tube, buffer and spring.

Waiting on a mk6 optic to put on. Will change out the pistol grip to a magpul.

Re: Colt LE901-16S

That looks great. If you don't mind I'm going to post your pic on another site where there is a discussion about rifle stocks on the 901.

I was thinking of using the Armalite rifle extension tube, spring and buffer. Didn't think about DPMS.

Thanks again!

Re: Colt LE901-16S

I almost bought one at the Tulsa Gun Show today, but I knew my wife would make me sleep with it outside so I passed.

Re: Colt LE901-16S

I know the block is separate, where to get one I have no idea.

Re: Colt LE901-16S

The missing adapter is the biggest problem with the new 901.

Colt doesn't include one with the rifle, and it's damn near impossible to actually get ahold of one.

HUGE clusterf(_)ck on Colt's part. They tout the caliber change bit heavily, but pushed the rifle out without the parts ready.

Whoever said that Colt waited and took their time getting a good product is completely wrong.

Re: Colt LE901-16S

They are not shipping with the adapter block. My understanding is Colt will be selling the adapter and a 5.56 upper as a kit for less than $700. When they are released I expect a lot Colt 5.56 uppers to hit the market.

I have some nice 5.56 ARs in the safe so I was not concerned about the adapter block. I bought the 901 because I wanted a quality .308 and that's what I got. If the adapter had been included chances are I would have tried it a couple of times then thrown it in the safe and forgot about it.

Do you have proof of this? I've yet to hear of anyone returning one because of this. Let's try to stick to facts on things. Some may have been misinformed, but I've yet to come across an unhappy 901 customer.

Re: Colt LE901-16S

I prepaid for a 901, then got my money back due to the Charlie Foxtrot with the adapters and the last minute changes in the design. So I guess I am living proof. I had planned on SBR-Ing the lower for multiple calibers so I will wait and see what happens. I would be stuck with Colt as my only option in a 7.62 upper and would not be interested in paying close to another grand for the adapter block and end up with another upper I don't need.

If I do pick up the 901 eventually it will be just to have another 308, and based on that it is a few models down on my list of 308s to get. I was stoked on this rifle originally and after letting my cash sit waiting almost a year I was a bit disappointed in the outcome.

Glad to know you don't hear much then jackass, I know of 2 901s turned around specifically because of the lack of adapters. One was traded back to the store and the other was sold online for a hefty profit.

No I don't have proof in that I didn't get sworn and notarized statements once I heard about it.

Do you get "proof" whenever one of your customers says he doesn't like a gun for reason X and wants to trade it in?

Do you include "proof" everytime you post one of your experiences online?

Your post history has a considerable lack of "proof", so why don't YOU stick to the facts.
