I think i have it pretty much figured out. i purchased a stevens 200 in 223 for my wife and the plans are to let her shoot it as is until i get the rest of the parts needed to completely rebuild it.

My plan is to swap it to a 22-250 due to its low recoil and good ballistics.

and here is where i need help

I'm thinking i just need to get a new bolt face and get a new barrel in 22-250.

my goggle-fu isn't working today so sorry for this inconvenience.

thanks to all in advance

Re: Stevens 200 build help

You will need the bolt baffle since your gun was a 223 it came with a extended baffle

Re: Stevens 200 build help

thanks.
that says its for a savage 110 though. isn't the stevens 200 in 223 a short action? i thought the short actions were a savage model 10.

Re: Stevens 200 build help

you will need the barrel and bolthead for the 22-250 and as far as the front baffle goes, if you have a dremel tool or grinder handy you can just remove the extension on it. i have done this in the past to save a few dollars + shipping charges. it's not a close tolerance item that needs to be perfect.

Re: Stevens 200 build help

Barrel
Bolt head
Standard (non-extended) front baffle

MAGAZINE AND FOLLOWER

Easy peasy, takes <30min to swap everything out.

You might be surprised how a fast-twist 223 or 223AI performs compared to the 22-250...

I've done this also but the one I listed will work on short action model 10

Re: Stevens 200 build help

What bullets are you thinking of running in the 22-250? I have always liked the idea of running the heavier 75-80 gr bullets way faster than you could ever run them in a .223.

Re: Stevens 200 build help

yea I'm going to run the heavier 75gn bullets. i was thinking of getting a barrel in a 1 in 9 twist so she can still shoot some of the lighter bullets as well. i hear if i get a 1 in 8 twist that i should mainly reload the heavier bullets. every now and then i think it would be cool to load up some 55gn or 60gn bullets just to see how fast i can push them.

Re: Stevens 200 build help

Just throwing this out there. Stevens 200 ni .308 has been an awesome gun for me. I actually called Savage and spoke with them before I bought it. The information I received was that it is a Savage 110 with a different stock and no accutrigger. I bought mine, adjusted the trigger myself down to about 3 lbs but still breaking very crisp, then worked on hand loads. I bought a Chote stock and even though it was pretty cheap seems to hold together well. I am no expert but in my opinion one of the most forgotten parts about a gun build is the load development. Hope your build goes well. I look forward to seeing how it turns out.

Re: Stevens 200 build help

yea same as a savage 10. i want/need something to do in my spare time though so i figure building a gun would fit that slot perfectly though lol.
