Opening morning on public land, got there 2 hours early to stake my claim, didn't have any problems though. 20 minutes into legal light a yearling come running out at 20 yds, followed by a doe. The doe turns and runs right at the me and the stump I was sitting on and misses me by 3 yds!! This buck then comes out hot on her trail. Since I ususally hunt public land I am ususally a meat hunter and horns are a bonus. I saw this guy had some horns, I was guess a fork horn. I said you will eat. Pulled up the gun and shot him at 11 yds. Pulled his head out of the leaves and saw he was an 8 point. He is my only decent buck to date. He is also my first deer with my TRG and first with ammo I reloaded. Was home having a nap before noon. It was a good morning.

Re: Blooded the TRG

Congrats. Tasty-sized buck!

Though at 11 yards, the TRG was not at its optimum range! Need to add about 1500 feet to that before the TRG comes into its element.

That said, taking a buck at that range is a testament to the hunter, not the gun. Good position, good field sense, quick on the target... all because of your skill when you can harvest a buck at those ranges. A deer well-earned! That will make it even tastier!

Cheers and congrats again!

PS... I haven't even gotten out yet this year. Passed up a buck in my farm field on Monday that I saw from the house. But that's not hunting, it's just killing... Maybe next week I'll get out into the woods far enough to make it worthwhile...
