Looking for a new basic scope for my savage 308. Primarily used for deer hunting a a little target shooting. I'm looking for something in the 3-9 or 4-12 range. My max range for deer around here is probably under 200 yards and I doubt I'll be going to much further then that at the range. Nothing too high end. I'm thinking of one of the following:

Nikon Buckmasters 3-9
Bushnell Elite 3200 3-9
Burris Fullfield II 3-9

I have seen all three priced at around $200-250. Can anyone with experience recommend one over the others or does anyone know of a current deal on any of the three? Also, does anyone know of any current deals on any of the above? That may be the deciding factor. Thanks.

Re: Basic Optic for 308 Hunter

Right now Cabelas is having a sale on the Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40 for $299. That can't be beat. The others can't touch it.

Re: Basic Optic for 308 Hunter

^^ man that is a hell of a deal. You have a link?
Forget it, they are all gone. Dangit.

Re: Basic Optic for 308 Hunter

Their website just allowed me to add one to shopping cart. Seems they are available. Tempted to order one just because. Bought one back in July.

Re: Basic Optic for 308 Hunter

a leupold vx1 3-9 can be had in that price range

i've owned a couple of 4-12's and they're good glass for the money and leupold stands behind their products as good as anybody

Re: Basic Optic for 308 Hunter

if you are doing any target shooting at all with it, go with an adjustable objective scope - no harm for hunting either - 3 to 9 scopes never offer AO

the Bush 3200 4-12 has AO / would be a good choice

Thanks for the tip. I'm thinking that Bushnell might be just what I need, at least to get started.

Re: Basic Optic for 308 Hunter

I picked up an elite 4200 3-9x40 at cabellas last year at thanksgiving or xmas for $199.00 wish I would have bought 2. It an excellent scope resettable to zero a feature i didnt know of till I unboxed it.

Re: Basic Optic for 308 Hunter

does cabelas still have the Zeiss for sale for 299? i can't seem to find it.

Re: Basic Optic for 308 Hunter

The Nikon M-308's are out now. I just picked mine up today. Haven't mounted it yet but I'm putting it in place of a M-223 on a 308 bolt gun. The 800 BDC is reportedly matched to a 168SMK at 2680......
If it is anything like the m-223 I sealed will be tickled pink. They are definitely worth a look.
