It's always good to see fellow teenagers(it seems like its usually 17 yr olds) on here with a passion for hunting/shooting. Other kids just don't know what they're missin'.
Kody - Great job on the build! It seems like you have an outstanding work ethic and it's definitely paid off. Paying for all of your stuff on your own without your parents' help gives you so much more pride in it and lets you enjoy it a whole lot more. Can't wait till you get it finished up so we can find out how it shoots. That was definitely a cool thing seeing all those guys pitching in to help you out. It's guys like them that set this forum apart from others. Good luck with the rest of the build. Hope it shoots as good as it looks!

Congratulations, that's a nice rifle! I'm 18 and just picked up my first rifle bigger than 22lr, and if I'd known I'd get this much free swag I'd have started a thread too! Enjoy the shit out of that rifle, treat it right and it'll treat you right.

Just got the scope on a couple hours ago it's supposed to have 20mph winds and snow and rain tomorrow but that's not going to stop me from shooting!!

thats awesome. when i have a kid i hope he is as enthusiastic about the outdoors as you are. kids now days are all about video games and crap.
good to see a kid who knows what he wants and works for it.
nice wheels as well. those little things can go through anything. i saw one go through a mud hole and a friends F250 followed and got stuck because he sank lmao. i had to pull him out with my Ram 2500 Hemi so he got laughed at twice by my buddies. his truck was just too heavy.

Sorry no update today guys! I've been deer hunting all day and today was 15 degrees and 25 mpg winds so it felt like -10! But I will have updates for sure!

I'm in the same boat as triceratops. Started at 17 and after a year of mostly saving I ended up with the rifle in my signature. Went from a .223 to a 6.5 creedmoor.
Being 18 now and in the army I just dream of going back home and shooting both rifles and archery (high power service rifle and joad archery) again. Probably going to be a few years with another year of training and a deployment lined up.
Just keep working for shooting money and network as much as possible. You can never know too many people especially when it comes to a community such as shooting. Find a range that holds matches close to you and go. Don't expect to win straight away but you'll learn the most in compitions. No matter how much you read here you'll learn the most by going out there and doing it.

Good to see a kid out doing it themselves. I built my rifle when I was 19. Or started building I should say it's always a work in progress, right about the time I think I'm done I find something else to do.

Thanks guys!! I can't wait to get to shooting some targets but I haven't had time lately with school til 3:30 then hunt from them till dark at 5:30 then homework but I'm hoping to get out and shot some on Sunday!

My little brother 18 now (large gap between us) is seriously considering marines. To many people take for granted what you give to protect our countrys freedom.
To the op, congrats on the build! That combo will serve you very well for along time to come. Awesome work ethics by the way. I have that exact scope on a Savage 112 bvss 7 mm rem mag that I stretch the legs on from time to time and it has some great glass & seems to always track true back to zero.

The wider the eyes get, so do the goals. You'd do well to keep a reasonable rein on all that immensely potent youthful enthusiasm. You don't want to get yourself to running in circles.
What ever you do, keep your goals small in number, well within real capabilities, and sequenced so you don't get bogged down trying to do everything at once.
Learn and embrace the concept of clinging to the adequate vs the admirable. What works reliably is good enough. You don't need the absolutely very best to do well; if you're serious about your marksmanship, it doesn't take the best to do better than most.
The real improvement needs to come from the skills, and not from pricey equipment that can fail and leave you in a pit you can't afford to climb back out of. Saving everything, then spending everything, leaves you with limited options once you have the means to do something well. Keep something in reserve.
A genuine marksman can weasel out the ultimate performance from any firearm; a dilletants can't shoot anything to its true potential. Believe me, when something fails, it's usually the skills.
Somewhere in all of this there needs to be a simple, reliable .22LR trainer that makes practice most affordable, and can be used in spaces that do not require hundreds of yards of distance in order to provide a realistic challenge.

Hey it's been fun so far. Training until August then deployment in December. College for two-three years to finish the degree and I have a special forces contract lined up already.

+1 what Greg said above about the 22lr. I asked how to become a better shot a few years ago when I joined the forum. The answer I got was from Sterling Shooter, get a 22 and shoot it till you can hit 1" dots sitting, standing, and prone at 25yrds until it seems you can't miss. If I would have spent the money I have on 22lr ammo instead of trying to buy accuracy through gear, I would be that better shot I still want to be. Don't take these guys suggestions and experience lightly. Also, dry fire practice is priceless. Keep it up and good shooting.

Great start with a great rifle. I started with the same rifle just a couple years ago. I agree with the rest that say wait on the truing until you rebarrel.
I never shot the 95 VLD but I did have great success with the 87 VLD bullets.
I'd say all you need to do is shoot it, have a good time and keep up the hard work. It will pay off!
