Both, although more so with the supporting wrist.
The variance with either can also be contingent on grip angle, height, etc.

I really had to read your question a few times to understand(hopefully) what you're saying.
When I have new-shooter students, I tell them much of what I demonstrate can be adapted to their build/mobility/comfort. In the end, the shooter/platform/weapon need to operate as a system.
So, strong hand(first hand on pistol) kind of goes where it goes. High of grip as possible, and I really don't intentionally cant that hand or roll it foward(toward muzzle) consciously.
Support hand(reaction side hand in new terminology) <span style="font-style: italic">initially </span>gets placed mirrored to strong hand. Then I rotate my reaction hand forward approx 10-15 degrees. Like I'm rotating my thumb towards muzzle.
WHY? for me, it gives me a bit more purchase/friction on side of pistol. More friction to me = more/better control. I certainly fidget my hand between shot strings and have to re-establish a solid grip, but it was worked for me.
(I'm RH on pistol) and I stack my right thumb on top of left, along left side of pistol. For me, my left thumb tends to ride high on pistol receiver and I sort of exaggerate the curl of the thumb outwards to prevent retarding the slide operation. Right thumb sits on top of left hand thumb base. Does that makes sense?

For me personally, I have to roll noticeably more with a GLOCK, than I do with say an HK or SIG, as the grip angles can be quite different.
