Target Camera Video System / Update

Re: Target Camera Video System / Update

very cool. now if i only had land available to me to shoot that far. my max range is about 800.

Re: Target Camera Video System / Update

do you need the special antennas a both ends?

if you have one, can you go further than 500 yards? and if so how far.

thats a pretty straight forward setup.

Re: Target Camera Video System / Update

Mark,

I punch holes in paper with a 223 and 308 and I want to see the groups clearly. I have been thinking about putting tougher a bullet cam for about a year but was not sure which model transmitter and receiver would work best. Your video helped a lot. Do you think 223 and 308 groups would be clearly visible on paper targets?

Thanks
Brian

Re: Target Camera Video System / Update

tex, that will depend on the video camera and monitor you use but in short, yes. any newer generation video camera with zoom and just about any of the small monitors out there should zoom in and have the resolution to clearly see holes punched in paper.

I can clearly see holes punched in paper from my scope at 300-400 yards. Imagine a video camera at 15 feet.

Re: Target Camera Video System / Update

How much was your investment minus the video camera? That is a pretty sweet rig you built.

Re: Target Camera Video System / Update

We did this last year up in Northern Nevada, and I'm still going back to the shooting screen and learning things.

The only thing I'd like when doing the split screens, is if there was a way to remotely broadcast back to the FP (on a computer) how it looked.

As we looked later there is a ton of things we could've seen that would've helped. But, I honestly think seeing it then and there would have helped even more.

400 yards either means you have a lot less mirage than we get where I shoot, OR you just don't count "those days".

I've seen times when a $2,000 Celestron (1980s dollars, mind you) couldn't resolve .30 holes at 200. With the firing point AND the targets on berms averaging more than eight feet above the ground in between.

Re: Target Camera Video System / Update

Thanks for taking the time and putting that video together, great work, enjoyed watching it..

Re: Target Camera Video System / Update

Grump, I don't think there's ever been a time where i couldn't locate .30 holes at 200 through my NF 3.5x15. If the mirage is tough at 300+ slap a shoot-n-c on the target and it saves you a lot of hassle.

Now out past three or four hundred I would LOVE a camera setup. I just cant justify the cost.

Re: Target Camera Video System / Update

Turk,

I understand what you are talking about. The cost of a nice setup like this one is a tough pill to swallow.
Buying guns and scopes is a lot more fun for me. I wanted to get a SA 1911 Service Target 9 mm for Christmas but when I thought of how often I would use it compared to a bullet Cam I decided to put a bullet cam tougher. I guess it depends on how often someone is going to use it. I am looking forward to the day when I can get that immediate feedback. The two things that I am still concerned about are the setup time and shooting the thing.

Re: Target Camera Video System / Update

How many cameras will this system support? I know each addditional shooting station will need a monitor and a separate camera but what else will it need?

With just the two antennas that came with the trasmitter and receiver
I was able to get out to 535 yds. with a clear signal.
With just the one antenna you saw, I was able to get out to 1.5 miles.
You don't need more than one antenna.

Hi Brian,
It all comes down to the quality of your camcorder and how close you frame the shot. Or, zoom in.
Today's camcorder's are really amazing with 1920x1280 resolution for most. They're about $400.00 or so. Do a search on Amazon or Google.
You can set the zoom as close to what you want to see in the monitor. I'm sure if you get a nice
tight shot of a "shoot and see" for example target, you'll see the hits.

These *items were purchased at The Protection Depot in No. Las Vegas, NV / www.protectiondepot.com
If anyone calls to place an order from Mike Ward, tell them to say they saw the Target Camera System Video. 877-669-6368 / 702-647-6368

*KW7305 Transmitter/Receiver was $269.00

*12VBP4.5 Ki-Ion Rechargeable Battery Pack and Charger, plus 1 additional Rechargeable Battery Pack was $124.00

*2 BP-8AA Portable Battery Pack @ $5.00 ea. = $10.00

These two items were purchases at L-com / http://www.l-com.com/
800-341-5266

The antenna was $45.00
The cable for the antenna was $29.75

You can a tripod from Fry's/Best Buy starting around $40.00 on up.

As far a monitor goes, check out B&H Photo out of N.Y. Here's one for a reasonable price.

Monitor: B&H Photo has a Marshall M-CT7 7" Portable Camera Tod Field Monitor With Battery Plate/Battery/Charger
for $309.95
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/83...OP_MONITOR.html

You'll be connecting the Video Out (RCA) from the receiver so you'll need a monitor that has
an RCA input.

I used 2 C-Stands (also in my film equipment) to mount the shelves that hold the transmitter and receiver.

These also can be purchased from B&H photo. They get up around 10'. You can get them for about $127.00 ea.
Here's a link as well:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/243710-REG/Avenger_A2033F_A2033F_Century_C_Stand.html

The cool thing about the C-Stands is portability and 10' extension. Just drop a weighted sand bag on the back leg for a little extra
stability.

It will support one Audio and one Video feed. I has 8 channels for selecting a different freq. in the event you happen to have interference from another source/signal.

Re: Target Camera Video System / Update

Thanks for viewing and the positive comments. This isn't something that's for everyone. The reason I put this together
is because most of the shooting I've been doing as of late is at a mile or more.

The spotting scope just doesn't show me the hits too well. I have 60 yr. old eyes...

Plus, I had a few of the components already so my investment was
really only for the Transmitter/Receiver, Battery Packs and the
Antenna/Cable.

Re: Target Camera Video System / Update

definitely makes things easy for you to see what you are doing downrange

Re: Target Camera Video System / Update

Dude, that's a sweet set up! been thinking about going this route for a long time...thsnks for the video, really helped
