I must say that it is not ignorance to expect someone to speak English in the US. I don't visit other countries and expect to be given everything, and expect everyone to speak my native language. The key here is you came to this country out of choice, this is not a free ride. At least that is what was instilled in me by my Hispanic / Native American grandparents. I sir am an American and speak English, I do not expect anything that I didn't work my ass off for. However it is ignorant to expect Americans to continue to bend over backwards for everyone or else we are tagged as ignorant or racist. my wife is from Nicaragua and the first thing she did when she came here was enrolled in english courses at the local college. I'm learning spanish so when i go to Nicaragua i can communicate enough to get by and hopefully hold a conversation or two.

my wife thinks it funny as hell when we go out and someone asks us something in spanish and i act like i have no clue what they are saying. even my wife will not talk to someone when they ask her something in spannish. she tells them "i learned english so why can't your lazy ass".

As a country we must stand together with a common language, culture" American" , not as a plethora of languages that make it very difficult and somewhat irritating when it comes to communication. It pisses me off when I get spoken to in Spanish. We live in the USA, you are here by choice . With that said, the official language in this country is English.
I love this country and my ethnicity doesn't mean shit because I live and would die for this country only................................. Okay then now that that is clear I must return to my grad school studies to pay for f....
