Went shooting today with my new RWS 243 bolt gun with a 26" 1-8 with 105 AMax bullets with 40.3gr of IMR 4350.

At 500 yards with some serious mirage I shot a 5 shot group that measures a shade over 4" with a tape center to center to farthest away holes. Damn flier or i pulled it would have been a really great group. What formula does everyone use to measure the MOA ?

Had 3 of the 5 shots a quarter would cover but damn target looked like it was jumping all over from the mirage. Can't wait to shoot again on a cloudy day without mirage .

My custom Bullberry Encore 24" 1" bull 243 with 1-12 twist shot some 55gr at 4000fps at 300yrd at 2.75 group measured with a tape. One rounds under the tape in the picture. Which just from what I can search on the net is under 1" MOA at 300 so was a good day . If it wouldnt have been windy I would have taken it out to 500.

MOA is 1.047" at 100 yards

MOA is 1.047x5 at 500 yards = 5.235"

You say you shot a 4" group

4 divided by 5.235 = .764 MOA

Re: Formula to measure MOA??

If I am reading you right on the question you may want to try "On Target" software. You can just take a snapshot picture, import into the software, use the measuring device in the software to calibrate for size, then just at matter of plotting the shots. It will give you MOA, MIL, shot strings, and a bunch of other "stuff".
