For anyone searching for a light recoil ammo for kids, this is it. My daughter is seven years old and weighs about 43 pounds. I had a Rem 700, .243 cut down to fit her and purchased the Hornady lite in the 87 grain SST. She is able to shoot this load very comfortably and hasn't even mentioned the recoil. She took her first buck here in Texas during the youth weekend at about 70 yards.

My family reloads for almost every rifle we have, but I have to say that I'm impressed with this load. I was able to get a little better than a 3/4" group with it.

Re: Hornady Custom Lite

That's good to hear. I have a 2 1/2 year old daughter that I want to get into hunting in the next few years and have wondered about how to reduce recoil without making the rifle too heavy or adding a brake.

Congrats on your daughter's first buck!

Re: Hornady Custom Lite

Congrats on your daughter's sucess!

I trained my nephew and neices usubg a .223, then moved to the reduced recoil loads from Remington in a .308. The Reduced loads were great and very accurate in the Blaser R93 they were using. The rifle was cut and fitted for my wife and fit the kids very well.

When hunting season rolled around, none of them ever noticed the recoil of the hunting loads they were using.

My nephew used the same rifle with some full house 165 gr .308 Accubond loads in Africa to take several nce anmals.

The reduced load offerings do a nice job of introducing centerfire shooting to kids and recoil shy adults out there.
