Re: Spindrift
I've always found these threads interesting but I still can't see this being a factor for 1000 yards and under. Sitting there staring at a 1000 yard target, across numerous valleys, tree lines, streams and who knows what else between you and the target and having no idea how much wind, which direction it's coming from with the pre-mentioned terrains trying for a first round hit and folks are worrying about SD and the ever so slight adjustment that may be needed amuses me.
Yes, I agree it's a real factor but being realistic and trying to factor that in when there are 100's of other variables that take priority over that. Even the ones that say they put in 1/2 or 3/4moa to account for it how do they know there isn't a breath of breeze that did it other than SD? We take our best guess for that distant target based on what we figure the wind being and go for it and if it's a near miss we make the adjustment and get the hit next round.
I know some like to account for all variables and like everything to be perfect based on scientific calculations and formulas but in real life shooting it rarely is gonna be that perfect a world. Past 1000 yards it might be a factor but again Mother Nature is in control so knowing that small adjustment still isn't going to guarantee a hit.
Just my thoughts on it which means next to nothing but not worrying about it gives me one less thing to ponder about while ringing that distant steel.
