Only if your turn on your Eotech NV with the PVS-14 on and the Eotech is not turned on to one of the subdued NV settings....ie -> do not turn the Eotech on with any of the normal visual reticules while your PVS-14 is behind it.

Re: Pvs-14 IR filter

Adding to what SkyPup has mentioned...

Another way to insure your EO Tech does not burn it's reticle onto your tube.

1. Insure EO is on it's NV setting by pressing the NV button. Sometimes this does not always do the trick as the button may not get pressed firmly enough if your wearing gloves, cold weather etc.
2. Since you cannot see the NV reticle with your unaided eye, first power up your PVS-14 with the gain turned all the way down. Look through your PVS and slowly bring up the gain until you start seeing the reticle. If you continue to turn up the gain and the reticle starts to get VERY bright, immediately turn back the gain on your PVS and re-check the NV setting on your EO.

Remember, you only need to barely see the reticle on your EO or any other MRDS to be effective at night. Of course your reticle will be a smudge brighter if using active IR, but the reticle should only be bright enough not to take away from your target ID....And it does not take much as I use setting numbers 1 or 2 on my Aimpoint T1. Hope this helps.

Re: Pvs-14 IR filter

I have the IR filter. Used it and took it off. I could see no use for it if you are hunting oinkers or other varmints. No need to worry about the green tint, as long as you stay in the states.

The eotech comes with a good instruction booklet. Make sure and read it, as it does tell you how to turn on and adjust your reticle brightness, and the proper way to insure it is either on or off.with the use of the 14 behind then use only the NV switch, and do not leave it on unless you are actively scanning or preparing to shoot. What has been said here is very good advise. Do not wear gloves to adjust your eo-tech. as Vic said the switches are small and easy to compress the wrong one or two.
I keep the day cover on the 14 until I am ready to use it, and then it is easy and simple to remove. It is a very nice combination, and with a D Lock, easy to put on or take off-depending on how you operate.

Re: Pvs-14 IR filter

All of us in our hunting group are using our IR filters all the time on our helmet and weapon mounted PVS-14s, we never take them off. Works just fine for us...

Re: Pvs-14 IR filter

Which filter do I need for my pvs-14,does it just screw on the front or do you need a adapter, never have used one before?where is the best price to buy one?

Re: Pvs-14 IR filter

Thanks skypup
I just bought the eBay one that you recommended to me,thank you so much.I can't wait to get my pvs-14 from Tnvc,it's been about 3 weeks now and waiting. The next project will be a IR illuminator like the spir or the dbal d2 if I can afford it down the road. Also need a helmet system for the pvs.

Re: Pvs-14 IR filter

The LDI DBAL-D2 is a very nice adjunct to a PVS-14 mounted on a helmet for sure, it does not get much better than that!

Re: Pvs-14 IR filter

What system are you using on your gun for optics,IR etc?

Re: Pvs-14 IR filter

That is the LDI DBAL-D2 IR/vis laser/illuminator unit on the front end, behind that is a FLIR T-50 Thermal.

I do not use the thermal with the laser, the IR laser & illuminator are for use with my helmet mounted PVS-14.

You can also run an LDI DBAL-I2 IR/Vis with an IR Illuminator like the TNVC Torch Pro:

Re: Pvs-14 IR filter

Hi skypup
You have one assume rifle, that FLIR t-50 is unreal and must cost a leg and arm to purchase,I wanted to but the ATN Thor system that is thermal being the cost was around 5.400.00,but decided to get a pvs for now and learn the NV system a little better first.I do not hunt so it is more for fun and protection.

Re: Pvs-14 IR filter

Hi skypup
Do you have any pics of your helmet set up and the description on what's on it,trying to learn what I would need to purchase for my PVS.

Re: Pvs-14 IR filter

One of the best things I like about the PVS-14 IR filter is the ability to use the PVS-14 before sunset and after dawn, two of the most difficult times to see anything with your own eyes or NV and also when there is considerable activity.... the 720nm filter makes this happen, without it, do NOT turn on your PVS-14 at those times.

Re: Pvs-14 IR filter

Hi skypup
I have a question for you on the torch pro extreme IR it has 2 options,1. Says vtac light mount.
2. Says vtac mount and picatinny adapter
Which one do I choose?
It's going on the pictatinny rail like yours.

Also I saw that other company's make a vtac in flat dark earth from midway company, any ideas on a polymer mount vs the tnvc mount?
Thanks
Ron g

Re: Pvs-14 IR filter

With the IR filter on the PVS-14, can you put it behind the eotech without the nv setting?

Yes, it filters out the visible red light waves, it will work with a non-NV Eotech.

I would get the VTAC mount, it mounts your light directly to your picitanny rail, the other one you mentioned is for mounting to a D-740 or 760 NV scope. Talk to Vic about it first though.

From TNVC Torch Pro site description:

Package 1: Torch PRO by itself

Package 2: Torch PRO + VTAC Light Mount (mounts your Torch PRO to standard Picatinny Rail)

Package 3: Torch PRO + VTAC Light Mount + D-740/D-760 Picatinny Adapter (allows Torch PRO to be mounted directly to a D-740 or D-760 scope)

Re: Pvs-14 IR filter

Hi sky pup, just noticed that you have a DBAL-D2 and a torch pro illuminator, why do you need to have 2 illuminators, you have one on the DBAl and the torch? Was there another one on your helmet too?
If I buy the torch do you think I would need a surefire xm tail caps that has a pressure activated switch?the tail cap also comes in different lengths like 2,3,4,5 inches, what lenght would be needed? Never had one and do not know if I need that, also thinking of a separate laser like the LDI CQBL-1 also.

Re: Pvs-14 IR filter

I have the Torch Pro and DBAL-I2 (no illuminator) on one rifle and the DBAL-D2 on another rifle.

Re: Pvs-14 IR filter

The torch is an Illim device and the CQBL is a dual laser device. Get the pressure cap also.

Look at Skypups Pics. Both are there. I have both those set ups also and they work very nicely.

Re: Pvs-14 IR filter

Hi skypup
Could you please recommend a link and what tail cap I would need to order, also they come in different length s.

Would I need to have a pressure switch for the torch and a pressure switch for the laser also, that would be 2 switches?
Thank you skypup, hope you had a great thanksgiving !!!!

Hi Ron,

This will take care of both units. http://tnvc.com/shop/surefire-sr07-d-it/ 7" cable work well for most applications.

Yes, same laser ports on the CQBL's as on the DBAL's.
