I want to get out of my contacts for awhile and need a recommendation for some good prescription glasses frames for prone shooting. My regular glasses are polycarbonate but are to "short". When shooting prone I end up looking through or over the upper part of the frame.

Anybody have any suggestions for new frames?

Thanks

Was in the same situation, so I decided to try no correction, just a good quality safety glasses and readjusted my optics.Seems to work ok for me as im near sighted, no need for close up correction.Otherwise get a pair of the old aviator style frames and have them set high on the bridge of your nose, it does work.

Good question. I'm in the same boat. Some of the guys I shoot with use Decot Hy-Wyd glasses. They say because of the design the glasses stay in place ( high up) on the brow due to the adjustable nose bridge and don't fog up because of the sweat bar. Unfortunately there is no nearby dealer to visit in order to try on a pair. Like to hear from the other members as well.

Randolph Ranger or Decot are the top two options available with adjustable nose bridges. I went with the Ranger Edge and I'm very happy with them. I got the prescription trivex lenses from eyeglasslensdirect.com

Re: Prescription glasses frames for prone shooting?

This was the exact problem i had. I got the Oakley split jackets. Then i got sunglass lenses, clear lenses and finally transition lenses. I use these for shooting all the time, and even for work while welding. The bad ass part about the split jackets is the ability to change the lenses and the excellent coverage. Fortunately for me, i have broken my nose enough times that my nose bridge is pretty high, therefore my glasses never are too low for prone shooting. My daily wear glasses are the frameless style, so there is no frame to look through.

For shooting though, i highly recommend the oakley split jacket with the transition lenses.

My $.02

Liquid eyewear can hook you up, they do in frame and or inserts and they are ANSI approved. liquideyewear.com is the address, they offer LEO/MIL discounts.

Liquid glasses are also 100% made in the USA

Re: Prescription glasses frames for prone shooting?

I've been using Oakley Flak Jackets with prescriptions lenses. I have both clear and sunglasses lenses but I usually just leave the shaded ones in. On my face, they tend to sit high on my nose which works well for prone.

Re: Prescription glasses frames for prone shooting?

I never could get comfortable wearing contacts even for day to day use. Ended up with a set of Oakley Frags with clear lenses for day to day and work well for prone shooting. I needed some sunglasses to with my prescription and I can't remember if they are Oakley Tightropes or whiskers and they are awesome too for shooting. Polarized with light tint and are actually crisper in vision than my day to day glasses. Not sure why other than the Day to day glasses were not cut at Oakley and the sunglasses were as the eyeglass place couldn't do the glasses that have that much of a side wrap on them.
