I have a WWII M1 carbine. I am wanting to take apart, clean, and inspect this rifle. I have experience with disassembly and assembly of a few different rifles, shotguns, and pistols. That being said I have not done anything with a semi automatic rifle and no experience with one this old. I am wondering if anyone has any experience with this weapon and I am looking for tips or things to look for upon disassembly. The gun shoots fine but is really dirty and hasn't been cleaned in about 20 years or so. Thanks.

dude, there's some old newsreels on the M1 Carbine on youtube, they'll show you everything grandpaw learned to keep that thing running. its pretty cool, and the graphic charts are well worth the search.

I sent you the file. I also added "Carbine Notes" which deals with maintainance and repair as well as shooting the carbine.
Might want to check with CMP's upcoming events and find a GSM Clinic and Match in your area. That's one place to really learn how to shoot the carbine. Also a means for you old gal to show you she still has it in her.

I have 3 M1 carbines - among my first MILSURP puschases - and love them!!
Post some pictures when you can. As you dissamble it, you'll find markings on almost all of the parts. The marnings indicate what factory made the part. More than 95% of the M1carbines went through at least one post-WWII refurb so it isn't unusual to find them with a mix of parts.

Refurbishing is nothing more then washing off the history. Mine has dents and scratchs. I do rub it down with linseed oil every now and then to keep it from drying out.

I did get a period bayonet for each one of them though. Except my Krag, still looking for that one.

Oh trust me, it got refurbished.
Every weapon in WW2 received some type of repair, replacement or upgrade. It would be a very, very rare weapon that didn't. (And those bring prices in the thousands, but only with independant inspection and detailed data sheets.)
But, this is a good thing!! These changes show the history of the weapon and gives it true character.

These are fun little rifles.
ODCMP still gets in surplus ammo for them sometimes, so keep an eye out if you want to shoot it a lot.
BTW, manufacturer is marked on the heel of the receiver, probably under the rear sight.

I have an M1-A1 and an M-2 . . . they're fun!!!
Even more so when I was about 13 or 14 and my daddy would bring home 23 or 4 cansiters of ammunition when his National Guard unit would come back from annual small arms qualification . . .

If its an Irwin pederson it's a piece of shit that will blow up in your face, get rid of it in a hurry, I know of a way to dispose of it safely so you can send it to me

I, naturally, got bitten by the M1 Carbine bug when the prices hit around $600; not when they were $25. Still missing a Standard Products version. I was lucky and got two or three through the CMP. My latest one that arrived just in time for C'mas is an Inland M2. It would have been all original except some [expletive deleted] person cut the bayonet lug off the barrel band to make it look like a Type 2 band. Why, I don't know, since the Type 3 band is correct for the serial number. I'll be replacing the pooched band. So the carbine won't be "original," but it will be "correct."
I still need to get it to a range that allows full-auto toys so I can function test it.
They're all just incredibly fun.

This, and I don't know about VJJ, but I have tons of experience dealing with those Irwin Pedersen time bombs. I'll be more than glad to take them off of anyones hands. Hell, I live just a few miles from the lot the Irwin seating co. factory sat on where they were made almost 70 years ago. Give them to meeeeee.
