Hoping someone can ID or give a value for this coin. I got it in Saudi Arabia when I was there on an all expense paid vacation in 91.

It weighs about 50 grams.

Thanks,

Re: Gold coin id-value

I dont have any certain knowledge of this coin, but unless its somehow very rare and collectable,my guess is its worth its gold weight. Assuming its 99.5% or so pure, at 1750/oz, a gram is worth about $62.50. So 50 x $62.50= $3125. Youll actualy get a bit less as the dealers want a small amout over or below spot price, depending on wheter they are buying or selling. You might try asking www.Kitco.com. If you decide to sell let me know, I might be interested.

Thanks, </div></div>

1991? And you randomly picked up a $3K gold coin but don't know the value? You ever heard of the Geneva Convention? And yes... I'm implying it.

You think I should try to sell it at the Geneva Convention? What exactly ARE you trying to imply?

I bought the coin at a bank. I know what I paid for it at the time. But I've never been able to find any information on it. I thought there might be a collector, here, who would know about it.

Thanks for the conspiracy though.

So while on a "vacation" to Saudi Arabia during a time of war you decided to stop into a bank and buy a gold coin that would have cost minimum between $600-700 as a souvenir? Right... and it's not a conspiracy I'm implying that you looted because your back story sounds like bullshit.

Broker, you simply have been vacationing wrong. Most reasonable people actually seek out countries at war as vacation destinations. I find that its much easier to get good hotel rates this way. The closer to the battlefield, the better, I say. The only downside to this is that the street vendors are typically grouchy and a little "trigger happy", if you know what I mean. Hence I almost always look for banks to buy my souvenir's from. I'm surprised you didn't know all that.

How do you vacation?

Seriously? I thought you were just kidding around.

At the time I was an officer in the US Army. I was coming off of back to back deployments before DS/DS kicked off. After the "war" was over we had a couple of weeks of goof off time while getting the birds ready to ship home. I thought it would be cool to get a gold coin, went to a bank and asked what they had and this is what the banker sold me. Seems like I paid $500 ish for it. I was single and had more money than I knew what to do with.

You can believe it or not.

Someone has been wearing to much tin foil.

Re: Gold coin id-value

Talk about being quick to pass judgement and make assumptions without having all of the details huh Broker?

Hypocrisy much?

OP, take your coin to a dealer and have it appraised there.

Re: Gold coin id-value

Bullion coin, .917 or .925 gold depending on the mint date.

50 grams @ $56/gram x the purity = ($2567 @.917 or $2590 @.925)

But does the OP have any dodgy BFRRs? *

Re: Gold coin id-value

At the risk of sounding like I've been looting, what you have is a Saudi Arabia King Faisal gold medal. 1.48 oz gold .917 pure. It sells in the neighborhood of $2,800. Reference: search for king faisal at http://www.goldeneaglecoin.com Direct link doesn't work for some reason.

Point taken... In my defense I was being somewhat protective of the image I thought it was portraying in regards to actions of the military over there. I didn't attack the guy's character but the story itself. When people act extremely ambiguous about something like that it comes off as hiding something. And even the OP has to admit that of all the things to buy as a souvenir an expensive gold coin? I don't know where everyone is getting the whole "Conspiracy" thing from since we're not talking about a plot.

I apologize to the OP for implying he looted the coin. You are however weird, but I guess weird pays off since you quintupled your investment. I'll go back under my rock now... lol

For what it's worth and it's probably not much, I gotta respect a guy who can admit being wrong.

Re: Gold coin id-value

We weren't at war with Saudi Arabia. Most people bought gold at $6-8 gram. Now after 100,000+ came to Saudi gold hit $18-24 a gram.

I'm guessing that there's some strange insecurity that made you chime in 22 minutes later after I ID'd it? And no, the link doesn't directly resolve.

Re: Gold coin id-value

Actually I posted the link first, not that it matters. Look 2 entries above yours.... It was nice that you added the picture.

In Broker's defense, like many of us, he is sometimes odd, sometimes wrong, but so am I. I think he is a great guy, and a terrific shooting buddy.
