Next year I plan on hunting in west Texas. The terrain is rugged and there will be a lot of walking. I recently read on the hide that the Tikka is good choice for a lighweight rifle for this type of hunting. I'm concerned that the T3 may be too light for the 300win mag. Does anyone shoot a 300win mag T3 and what are the advantages and disadvantages?

Re: Tikka T3 Lite 300 Win Mag

My buddy got one in 7 Mag, and it whips his shoulder pretty good with factory 160 grain loads. The rifle is very accurate, and is a great carry weight and size. If the recoil is not an issue with you, they are nice rigs.

I have a T3 lefty in 308 and love the rifle. It's accounted for several heads of game and is great to carry in the field.

Of course, I had to customize it.

18" treaded barrel, bedded, oversized bolt, EGW 0 degree rail and metal bolt shroud. Everything else is so good out of the box you really don't need to do anything to have a great light weight hunting rifle.

I have not shot one in a magnum caliber, however with the weight I can imagine it would be a thumper in 300 Win Mag.

The stock design does make it easier to handle the recoil so for a rifle that's meant to carry a lot and shoot a little, I don't think you could go wrong at all with the T3.

I have a T3 Lite in .300wm sitting in the box. Had it about a year and a half and have yet to fire it. I have another rifle that is about the same weight in 300WSM and would guess the T3 will feel about the same.......rough. A joy to carry, but not a fun range rifle.

Just get a scope with plenty of eye relief.

Re: Tikka T3 Lite 300 Win Mag

I have T3 in .270 win it feels like a shooting a 300 win. mag with some loads. If your just gonna use it for hunting it should be fine. If your going to shot it a lot from a bench I'd put a muzzle break on it. They are really nice when your climbing steep canyons though.

Re: Tikka T3 Lite 300 Win Mag

It will pack a big punch, on both ends. That often, but not always, means poorer shooting than with a caliber that doesn't beat you up. It's one thing if you're in Alaska and potentially have bears to deal with. To each their own, but I'd go with a caliber you can practice a lot with and not think about the effects of recoil.

Re: Tikka T3 Lite 300 Win Mag

I just got a 7mm rem mag t3. While the recoil is stiff it's not that bad. I just swapped the factory rock of a pad with a limbsaver and think it will really tame it.

Re: Tikka T3 Lite 300 Win Mag

I shoot one myself. I added a Limbsaver recoil pad and that sure helped out with taming the recoil.
It bucks prety good on the bench but in a hunting situation there is no issues.

Re: Tikka T3 Lite 300 Win Mag

I had one in a 300 WSM and the limbsaver pad really helped. I didn't think it kicked too bad but my brother wanted to buy it until he shot it. He thought it kicked.

Thanks for all of the input guys. I'll probably wind up going with the Tikka Hunter instead of the T3 lightweight.

Re: Tikka T3 Lite 300 Win Mag

I have a Lite in 30-06 and it's the way to go. Put a limbsaver on it and have fun. The recoil will seem stout from the bench, but the positions in the field will feel better. You will spend hours humping your gun, but only seconds shooting it.
